I cannot turn on the wifi using the Fn-2 key
Not sure on the wifi part but as far as your lost files... when you reinstalled the operating system(windows xp), depending on the options you choose, there is the posibility of losing all of your personal data. This does not nesicarrily mean that the data is gone gone forever kinda thing but it can be an expensive process to recover data that has been deleted and there is not guarentee that all or any of it can be retrieved.
I have used the recovermyfiles software at the site below, before and it took a long time and did recover a good deal of data when my wife did a system restore(reinstalled XP) but it was a lot to sort through because the files do not keep their original name most of the time.... anyway it may be something you want to look into.

If you want to get it back to the original settings without the latest patches, turn on the computer and hit <Ctrl> and <F11> together when the blue bar displays with www.dell.com during the boot sequence. If you miss the timing, let the computer boot-up then shut down again and retry. This will restore from a compressed partition on your hard drive. Thus anything you have added (programs/files) will disappear. Do not power down during the Restore sequence or you could end up with an unusable machine.
Use the Windows System Restore if you just have a bad driver.
I hope this helps.

hi there, the program isn't necessary, if your computer is capable of burning DVD's, you can try obtaining some DVD burning software, you don't have to get the memorex burning software, you can try different software from different sources .
Trying to burn a dvd with windows media player.
Have you burn a disc before with this computer??? if so, make sure the disc is new, no scratches, also, you can clean your disc tray with a dvd cleaner disc, not expensive and needs to be done after every 10hrs of use, keeping it clean will save you alot of heartache.....hope this helps.......

I need help getting past my windows account user
If it is asking for a password, then you will have to enter the password. Othewise, you won't get past it.
If you have Windows XP, you can start in safe mode and log on as administrator--chances are it's not password protected. Most people forget to put a password on it. Then you can change or remove your password.

Dell Inspiron 6000 won't boot!
I would suspect your hard drive has failed especially if you were hearing strange noises coming from the drive. ook in the Bios and see if the hard drive is being recognized, and is #1 in the boot order and listed as Master. If not, it has probably failed or the power cable is loose. Check all internal connections. You added Ram a month ago and possibly a cable is loose. You could try the hard drive in another computer, or remove it and have it tested at a computer shop. You could borrow another hard drive and try it or buy a new one. If it is a very old computer you may just want to buy a new one. If you decide to buy another one, wait until after Oct 22 and buy a Windows 7 OS. Windows 7 which I have been testing it superior to Vista.
