Dell Laptop Charger, wont charge bat. but keeps computer running.

The center of the connetor for the AC adapter to the system has a very fine wire that is the sensing wire for the battery charger. It ID's the type adapter connected to the system. If the wire is bent or broken, the system cannot ID the adapter and the battery charger will not function.

If the wire is bent or broken, then replace the AC adapter. ALso try a different adapter and see if the issue occurs with it. If the issue happens with more than one adapter or if this adapter functions normmaly on another system, then the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Dell laptop internet explorer won't open, flashes then nothing

Have you tried downloading the latest version of Internet Explorer? See if you have the latest version installed by following the below link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/internet-explorer/download-ie If it is the latest version, try uninstalling IE: 1. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features 2. On the left hand window pane, click "View installed updates". 3. Scroll down to the "Microsoft Windows" section. Locate Internet Explorer (8, 9, 10 etc.). Right-click and select "uninstall". Click "Yes" to confirm. Once this is done, go to the link above and download and install the latest version again. See if that fixes it.

Cannot boot operating system at all, not even from

Hi Diane, That is a read error on the hard drive. Depending on whether or not the machine is in warranty, Dell should be able to replace the drive. If its out of warranty they you're best getting a local computer guy to replace the drive for you and reinstall your operating system. Many thanks, Jon.

Inspiron 6400 sound card sollution

The best bet is to use an external USB Sound adapter as the internal sound system is part of the main board on the computer. You cannot replace the sound card inside a laptop.

Windows xp startup problem

You may need to "wipe" or reformat your entire C drive to be able to install Windows program again. I would suggest installing WIN7 program as WIN XP is at its end of life cycle for that operating system and Microsoft may not support it any longer. If possible try installing WIN7 once again, and if requested to reformat or do an entire install, choose YES. WIN 7 should then reformat your C drive, erase everything that is on it and then install as WIN7 program. Be sure you have your program license key to install WIN7.

Repair start up

i found this very good guide: 1. If your operating system is XP, CTRL and F11 key simultaneously when you see the dell logo after turning on the Laptop and follow the screen instructions. * Power the computer on. * When the Dell screen appears press and hold the CTRL and F11 key simultaneously on the keyboard, then release them both at the same time. The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window appears. * Click the Restore button or press the key to highlight Restore and press the key. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost. * Click the Confirm button or press the key to highlight Confirm and press the key. The Progress window appears. Once the process is begun, Dell PC Restore usually takes only 8 to 10 minutes to complete. When the restore is complete, the message The system recovery process was successful appears. * Click the Finish button or press the key to highlight Finish and press the key. The computer will restart. 2. If your operating system is VISTA / Win 7, tap F8 key when you see the dell logo. It will take you to advanced boot menu options under which you will see Repair your Computer, Select that option and enter your password if it asked, then you will be seeing list of options like system restore, command promt, etc., In that the last option says Dell PC restore or some thing like that. Select that option and follow the screens .. Thats it. * Start the computer. * As the computer starts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen. * Press the (Down Arrow) to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press Enter. * Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next. * Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK. * Click Dell Factory Image Restore. * In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next. * Click to select the check box for Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition. * Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration. * When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer. 3. If in both case, the Factory default didn't work, then your laptop's factory image defaults partition have vanished (i.e. Corrupted / Deleted). So you have to do Operating System re installation with the Operating System CD / DVD shipped along with laptop. Follow the below link to install windows XP Pro on your own.

If you are not afraid to open the box, the simple fix would be to remove the cpu battery(looks like a quarter) for about 30 seconds and replace, then boot up. At that point it will ask for information such as date and time, but then you can access the bios
