My Etrex Legend would not aquire satellites and after several call to tech support, I finally reset the whole unit. First I saved the waypoints on Mapsource. Then with the unit off press and hold the page button (upper right) then push the rocker button in and then push the power button. Once it starts you can then release all the buttons and set the unit outside for about 20 minutes.

I have this unit and have not had a problem acquiring satellites except under dense canapy cover. In open view you should always be able to acquire enough satellites. You should be able to see the available satellites on the start up screen and watch them being acquired. According to the manual if a satellite fix is not established a list of solutions is suppose to appear. Hope this helps.

Check both your track and map settings. Make sure that "show track on map" is not selected in your map settings, and in your track settings try erasing all previous tracks.

Before you do though make sure that the batteries are good and have been inserted in the correct polarity.

Etrex Vista is a very robust unit and most reliable generally, so this is unusual.

It seems that the batteries are dead . You need to replace them . When battery is dead it can't be recharged anymore .
If that didn't fix the problem , then I recommend you to clean the batteries base where the batteries set with a q-tip and alcohol containing liquid .

The unit needs to have the screen facing up. The unit will not read if it is vertical. Garmin cust serv finally helped me with that one. Once you turn on the unit, it could take up to 20 minutes (usually about 3) to grab satelites.

Call Garmin customer service, they are wonderful. My rubber thing around the outside became loose,and they sent me a new unit, even though it was almost 2 years old.

Sorry to say but this is already a dead unit and I think if this unit is still under warranty Garmion will have it repair but if its already out of warranty they will just advice you to have the unit replace by a new one...

I have been having the same issue. I have both the Topo and City Nav software. I seems more consistent when using the City Nav data. Changed microSD cards brand and still the same issue. I was told to also update to 2.60, but it did not help

I had the same problem with an etrex Vista. I spoke with Garmin, they said that a recently launched WAAS satellite is interferring with some models (he mentioned it is the models with a black and white screen). Garmin tech support said that they're working on a software patch but for the meantime switch WAAS off.
