You have to flip up the antenna on the back to turn the GPS on.

a rebooting unit will most likely not be resolved by a reset. The problem is usually caused by a failed firmware or map upgrade. When the unit boots and can not find certain files or they are corrupted, the unit crashes. The unit must be flashed with a service firmware to gain access to the units flash drive so that the corrupted files can be replaced. Once access to the flash drive is obtained, the favorites can be backed up as well. Once the files are restored, then the unit can be flashed again with the factory standard firmware. Got a Garmin Nuvi 260. Same problem. I read the booklet. There's a reset button on the bottom. Disconnect from power. Push the reset button. Connect back to power. Now it works. The reset button is tiny and looks more like just text on the bottom sticker than it does a button. But push it anyway.

Check to see if you have sound with headphones. If so, you have a bad speaker. If not, you have a broken connections between the headphone jack and PC board. More information can be found here: http://www.sharc.net/gps_audio_repair.htm

Try fully charging the unit and leaving it stationary for about 20-30 minutes if you still dont lock satellites try giving the unit a firmware updates using Garmins WebUpdater software here is a link.

There is a well known issue with power switch failures on this unit. It happened to me as well. I have heard that you can power the unit on with the car charger or if you plug it into the PC using the USB interface. I will try this tonight and report back my finding. I will be taking mine apart because of my bad experience using Garmin's technical support line. Most likely the problem is a defective switch or broken solder joint where the switch connects to the motherboard. Remember also, you have to hold the switch down for a couple seconds for the unit to power up.

No, the US data is on the unit itself. Adding an SD card with maps only increases the number of maps your unit can handle, it doesn't replace existing maps. You'll have to go into settings to change the view to European maps.

The unit can not be reset without knowing the pin code used to activate the security feature.
The unit must be sent back to Garmin to have it reset.

Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

try and get it plugged into a computer using a USB data cable, if the unit comes on most likely all you need to do is go to www.garmin.com and run a software update off the webupdater. and also try holding the power button for 50-60 seconds

press and hold one of the corners as you power the GPS on. It will prompt you to reset to factory default. Then try your upload again.

Since powering off and on your GPS isn't solving the problem, you should attempt a RESET. The RESET procedure is as follows:

1) Disconnect the GPS from external power.
2) Raise the antenna.
3) Locate the RESET button close to the antenna hinge on the rear of the GPS.
4) Press and hold the RESET button for 3 seconds.
5) Reconnect the GPS to external power source.

The GPS will have been reset and power back on at this point. If you have problems still, contact Garmin Support. You can download your manual here.

Give Garmin Technical Assistance a call. They will run you through a series of diagnostic and reset button sequences to try. The unit may just be faulty; in either case you will find out after the diagnostics are performed.

To perform a Master Reset on the nuvi 300 series, follow these steps:

1. Start with the device OFF and unplugged from the power source.
2. Use your index finger to press and hold the top right corner of the touchscreen.
3. Power the device ON while continuing to press and hold your finger to the top right corner of the touchscreen.
4. After the device powers ON, release the power button. Then you will see the message: Do you really want to erase all user data?*
5. When this message displays, remove your finger from the top right of the touchscreen and touch Yes.
6. The device will now go through the Reset.
7. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your nuvi.

After the nuvi is set up, if indoors, please go outside to allow the device to acquire the satellite information. Ensure that the device has a clear line-of-sight with the sky.
*If this message does not appear when using the top right corner of the touchscreen, please repeat these steps using the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.

At the top of the screen it should show the country that's selected which I believe is England.
At the bottom of the screen it should say CHANGE COUNTRY. Press CHANGE COUNTRY and select Belgium.

If this is not possible you may need to download the map again. To download again log into myGarmin and click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. You should see the name of the map you downloaded and under it the word in blue DETAILS. Click on DETAILS and it will bring you to a screen where you get the option to download it again. Download and install it on your computer, rather than the satnav, and when it's completed click the start button of your computer. Go to GARMIN and then MAPINSTALL. When you click MAPINSTALL you start the process of installing the map to your satnav and get the option of selecting the part of the map you want to install. After installation you may have to change country again as in the first paragraph above. This should solve the problem.
