Put it on the dashboard when it is acquiring signal, that helps it faster. If it locks up like that, disconnected the power for 20 seconds and then power it back on.

On Page 55 of the Nuvi Owner's Manual it states to check with your state and local traffic laws before mounting and that currently state laws in California and Minnesota prohibit suction mounts on the windshield. No mention of any other states. Your Nuvi Owner's manual is contained in your Nuvi and is also available as a download from Garmin.com

Make sure your windshield and the bottom of the suction cup is clean. Clean it with some warter & detergent and wipe dry. Try wetting the bottom of the suction cup before applying it to the window.

I recommend not using the window mount. I recommend using the dash friction mount. You take the risk of cracking your LCD screen when it falls.

3. It's legal in all 50 states (window mount is not).

There is a GPS Repair Guide that shows you how to open a GPS device and replace the glass. The glas is on Ebay. There is also a Garmin repair service that can do it for you.

Turn on the unit and go to Settings
Then select Map
Then select Map Info
Verify that there is a check mark next to City Navigator North America NT

Check out youtube. Search under "how to updae your garmin maps free" follow the instructions and it may work for you.

Cause the files are getting more and more detailed which also means the files are getting larger and larger in size. There is only so much room on this NUVI. Hit the side of the Garmin a few times while it is on. I did this to mine, and now I can see the screen like before.

Try the computer USB adapter. After it's been connected for about 20 seconds then try powering on the Nuvi. Even if your unit's battery is dead the USB connection should hold power on the unit so that the computer recognizes it as a Mass Storage Device (Windows). If that doesn't work then use the wall adapter and leave it plugged in for an hour or so. At that point if the unit fails to power on then push the reset button in the back under the antena and hold it in for 10 seconds while the cord is connected to the wall. This will clear any software related issues that would stop it from powering up - any other result indicates most likely a hardware failure. At least rule out your plugs.

The USB port is soldered to the circuit board, it didn't slide in, it broke due to brute force. I think you have to fork out $170

You may not have a complete US map on the unit. You may only have the NW SE OR NE states. AT the main menu, press the wrench/tools button, then the map icon and then the map info button. What does it say?

sounds like you might not have the new map set selected

settings -> map -> map info (make sure the NT 2009 map is checked)

Your Garmin is in simulate route mode. Flip the antenna up to turn on GPS.
