• shutdown and power off your acer laptop
• then remove the battery out of laptop
• connect the power and switch on ur laptop
• let it boot to operating system
• check if its working now? ur keyboard and mouse should be working now
• you can now connect the battery and keep working.
• if u want to power off, put ur laptop in hibernate more, rather than shut-down. so u dont have to reboot next time without battery.
• if u restart or start ur laptop after a shutdown, make sure to remove the battery first

You can order a recovery disk from acer. Even if you acer is not under warranty. The first disk was free for me.

Go to Acer.com and go to support and download drivers for modem its usally under communitcations.

If there is a switch it will be a slider on the front (accessible when the lid is closed) near the wireless light. Maybe 1/3 of the way along from left?

You will have to find out what Wlan card you have and install the updated driver this can be frustrating go to acer.com then go to support then go to download and get the updated driver the hard part is finding what card you have you may have to try several drivers before you get the right one.

then click on notebook - Aspire - choose 1640 - then download all the drivers and burn it to a CD. This is better than the motherboard CD as the drivers are latest ones when compared to your motherboard CD.

Most newish laptop HDD now can be upgraded up to about 500GB should be fine if you google harddrives or look on ebay you should find one that you want weather it is sata or ide
just make sure that you check what sort you have before you buy

There are two areas that you could add a password, one is your user account, and the other is set in the bios. Watch you screen carefully at start of a boot for directions to access bios set up.

It is possible that you have a bad LCD assembly, or possibly the LCD cable connector is loose. The only way to find out is to remove the LCD assembly from the top cover so that you can access the connector. It is located behind the LCD screen.
