Try hitting F8 on startup and see if it takes you to menu where you can choose Safe Mode.

Choose that. If you can get in that way then follow the following steps

I have an ACER Extensa 4620Z and the hinge cracked

hello, sorry to hear your situation.

After doing research I could not find any Acer recall for your model listed. Again, sorry.

May I ask a few questions?

How old is it? Did any excessive use cause the damage? Maybe a drop occurred?

Not to accuse you, but, these are the kind of question you may be asked if you contact the manufacturer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your laptop is not too old I would definitely contact Acer for warranty repair.

My cousin had a similar experience with a different manufacturer and to both of our surprise they fixed his screen for free. I cannot promise the same will be true for you but it is worth a try.

here is a direct link for Acer warranty repair.

ACER WARRANTY: Fix my Acer!

Good Luck!

If you can not get the computer online at all, then you can save that file to a flash drive and take it to your Aspire and install the filre from the flash drive.

I hope this helps! If not, please comment back and let us know!

I would try to 'restore' the computer to an earlier date when it did logon to the Internet, and install the latest version of Internet Explorer rather than Firefox. Try to restore to a date that was before Firefox was installed and go from there with installing a current browser.

If you need help on this, look up 'restore' on the 'help' menu on the 'start' menu.

Good luck with this repair.

Acer aspire 3610 the dvd cnt work

Here are some things you can try:

1.- The DVD /-R "standard" is not really a "standard". Not all drives recognize all brands of writable DVD's. Go to your DVD drive manufacturer website and see what brands of writable DVD's he recommends and/or update your firmware. May read only or - DVDs.

2.- Sometimes there might be a software glitch somewhere. Uninstall all your DVD burning software (nero and roxio require special registry tools to be completely removed which can you find on their home pages or on the net), reboot, and reinstall your DVD drive driver. Reboot again and install ONE of burning software program (you can also try putting in a blank dvd before having any burning software installed to see if you get a pop-up window from windows asking what to do next). Some peole claim that there can be conflicts if you use two burning software programs at the same time (like nero roxio).

3.- It could be a hardware hookup problem. This can be the case if your computer is new, you can read normal DVD's, and you have never tried to burn blank dvd's before. Open up your computer box and check the DVD hookups. Do you have more than one CD/DVD drive?. Which is the master/slave?. Does this mach what windows reports?. Are the IDE switches correct?. Unhook the DVD drive and other drives and redo the motherboard-drive connection yourself. Check that all the pins align how they are supposed to, etc. It is always a good idea to have the DVD /-R to be a master drive and to leave the other CD drives on the side while testing. If you feel uncomfortable moving cables around -don't be- search the net for detailed instructions on this till you feel comfortable enough to do it.

4.- Your DVD drive could be broken. Get hold of a friends computer and try to install it there. Does it work?. If it doesn't you should be able to get it replaced by the people who sold it to you.

5.- There might be a serious software or even a motherboard problem. Get a hold of a friends DVD drive that works for him and try to install it in your computer. Can you get it to work?. If you can consider replacing your DVD drive by one similar to your friends. If you can't check and recheck your botherboard settings and try swiching out the IDE cables with your friends. Condider upgrading your motherboard BIOS (this may void your warranty) or even reinstalling windows (backup your data first!).

To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

Acer aspire 3610 dvd drive

Check it is "seen" in the bios first, a failed device will often disappear from the bios
Then, in My Computer, see if you can see the DVD Icon
Now If you can see it, go to Control panel, device manager and see if there is a yellow exclaimation mark next to the device, indicating a problem. If there is, the device has possibly failed, but you can try to remove the retaining screw that holds it into the laptop remove the DVD and re-insert it. This works most times IF the device still has life left in it

IF you cannot see the DVD in My Computer, repost and I'll talk you through the next stage, which involves resetting the filters in the registry

It is possible that the web cam has become defective.
Go to ACER's site and download new drivers and see if that helps. If it still doesn't work, then the webcam is defective and can only be replaced.
