1st check your manual to see if your pc has a web cam. If it does then the driver may be missing. You need to go to Acer web page to download the driver.

If you do need to go to the webpage then make sure you go to the Device manager first and check the webcam device for the proper name & model number so that you can download the proper driver.

In addition you will need the pc name, model, id. number and what Windows system you have, this is to fill in the information need to be directed to right driver download. Hope this helps.

You need a bios master password that will clear your set bios password. I use http://www.unlockbiosrecovery.com/Unlock_Acer_Bios.php when I get an Acer laptop or notebook that has an unknown bios password. Happens often in my job repairing laptops. its better to use the one with higher pixel rating so that your clarity will be super good... any kinda webcam will work...

Look in my downloads, my pictures, or if you can remember one of the titles to the pictures you can do an internal search and the search wizard will tell you what folder it is in.
Also look in all the info while you have the webcam on, see if there are any links to your pictures with tabs on the screen.

you need to re install the software driver for the camera.the software is available at the net just type the model no of your laptop and ask for the web cam driver good luck!

I too have also bought the aspire 5738.
Mine was also hanging, eventually i sent it back to acer.
The mother board was replaced as it had a faulty north bridge on it.
If your unit is still in warranty get it done as soon as possible.

use another disc of windows or check the setting of bios and start up device

Double left click on "My Computer">double left click on your main drive (normally C:)>double left click on "Programs">look in the programs folder and find the folder that has your cam folder in it...after you find it then click on the reinstall icon...normally it will be the largest file of the folder.

immediately call Acer about this issue, since this will be a possible monitor replacement

Go to 'Start' and then Run
write "msconfig" inside Run tab and press 'enter'
inside the 'System configuration utility' window click on 'startup' tab then uncheck all the applications except your current antivirus and press apply then 'ok' and then 'exit without restart' option.

Now right click My Computer and go to properties tab.
click 'Advanced' tab then under performance menu click on 'settings'
go to 'Advanced' click on 'change' and increase your virtual memory to 2048 in both spaces.
Now restart windows.

Just do the following steps and your issue will be resolved.

1) Delete all unwanted data from Drive C.

2) Delete all data that you have copied from Drive C to External HDD

3) Open My computer and go to Tools---> Folder Options---->Click on View Tab----> Check 'Show hidden files and folders' and select OK.

4) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp and Delete everything that you see inside Temp Folder

5) Go to C:\WINDOWS\ here you will find folders like $hf_mig$, here you will have to Delete all the folders starting and ending with $ sign.

6) Empty Recycle bin and restart the PC and your issue will be resolved.

- this means "disk read error"
- you might have a faulty HDD
- try to restart the system and boot to bios by pressing F2
- check under system information if the HDD is detected
- if it's detected or not detected, try to reset Bios to default by pressing F9 and F10
- upon doing this and still the same error then call acer if the laptop is still under warranty to have them replace the HDD

Please be informed that any Driver software depends upon the PC make, Motherboard type and Operating System. You need to know all the three information's to do get going.

Please find the Driver software's of your Audio and video inside the installation disk provided with the PC at the time of purchase. As you have not mentioned your PC make I am unable to give you the direct download link. However you can download the same by visiting the website of the company that manufactured the PC.

Even here you need to be careful to download the correct software for your PC. You need to be exact with the PC make and Model number and the OS that you are using.

To install just Double clock on the driver setup.exe file and go on clicking 'Next' until you get the 'Finish' option and restart the PC.
