The general reset is press 2-4-9 together while turning it on. The second way is to press an hold down the 2-9 together an turn on radio. Some go with 3 an some are just 2 numbers. Try this.

Each key has two functions, normal or function mode. If you press the function an menu key together you can get in the menu. Sometimes you must hold the keys for 2 seconds.

go to bc tool join, radio reference group one you have both you can import frequencys from radio reference group to bc tool program then upload file to scanner

Make sure the 3 AAA batteries are placed in the unit correctly and make sure the correct rechargeable batteries are being used. Also make sure the outlet you are using to plug your radio in is actually working. If it is new give it a full 14 hours for the first charge. If you do all of this and it is not charging then you have either a faulty power cord, bad batteries or you have a malfunction in the charging area of your radio.

Unfortunately, you didn't specify if you needed assistance with programming digital or conventional radio systems.. but here is the info for conventional systems. Since a conventional system is really a collection of frequencies, the first thing you need to know is the frequency for each channel you want to program.

1. Go to the Program System menu and choose New System .
2. The scanner will prompt you for the System Type. Select Conventional .
3. When the scanner prompts you confirm, tap YES .
4. The scanner creates the system with a default name. Select Edit Name if you want to change it.
5. If you need to change any of the system properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

Create at least 1 channel group Each conventional system can contain up to 20 channel groups, and all systems must contain at least 1 channel group.

1. On the Program System menu, select the system you just created.
2. Go to the Edit Group menu and select New Group .
3. If you need to change any of the channel group properties, you can do that now. Unless a property is Required , you can operate the system without changing the default settings.

My recently purchased BCD396XT came with a mind of its own - not matter what I did, it would only scan the preprogrammed systems in Alaska. That didn't do much for me here in Texas, so I had to beat the thing into submission. First I installed BuTel programming software, then I deleted ALL the factory programming. Finally, I used the software to download and program what I wanted from the database at this LINK. The scanner does exactly what I want it to.

- With the scanner ON and scanning, press the Hold key.
- enter the frequency, including decimal point (48.28)
- Press E
- Scanner will query "Quick Freq Save?" Press E (Yes) and the frequency is entered.

You may have burned out any number of resistors and diodes, and may have damaged the main board, so I wouldn't trust any local guy with a soldering iron inside the BCD396T. I recommend you contact Uniden customer service through their web site, and mail the scanner to them for repair.

hello my name is kathy, I think you will need to go through it manualy and make sure that you still have all your frequency # is in it, If not you will need to put them back in. If there is there you may have locked them out, or try and hit the scan button. If you would like help on any of them let me know. [email protected]

This seems to be a common problem with all digital systems (especially with TV signals), and the ONLY solution is a better antenna. I suggest you search eBay, Scanner Master, etc. for a low-end (price-wise) discone and mount it as high as you realistically can.

The BEST scanner in the world is only as good as the antenna that feeds it!
