I try to format my

lots of reasons for this, bad hdd, tops list. XP from microsoft or HP? or from hackers? is this disc real or from CD-r recordable made by whom? does PC work ok with battery out, they love to short. does BIOS work ok? seems yes. did you take out the CD when the OS setup.,exe installer told you to? the first big step in the install. that first reboot, take out the CD or the cd can go back to step 1, run the CD, endlessly. doing that. that Disk check, is in BIOS, right, and we all know its like a toy right? I use knoppix linux live boot stick and run full HDD tests off it. 100x better that. and the smart status screen if it SHOWS< no more spare SECTORS, that means the HDD IS AT THE END OF LIFE, as all HDD do. every one. all HDD self heal , until the bandaids run out. and ends. end of life. if knoppic runs and disk test passes then what is wrong, bad install media. or worse, there is always worse on old Pcs like. bad RAM bad CD or DVD reader. (very common) and even a weak power pack.. good, bad, or weak they can be. ever run USB memory sticks, time to do that. it installs the OS way faster and needs no working CD to do that. no cd no drive, is best, like new PCs, have no cd drive. is yours with DVD drive? that too helps the helper. looking in the hp parts surfer, DVD drive was an option take the CD, make and ISO from it. and ISO file then use RUFUS (free) to burn the ISO to USB stick now boot that stick . to load XP good luck with XP the virus magnet.... and zero support now for 3 long years.

Boot sequence for compaq evo n800 laptop

You need a system disk first of all. Put the disk in the drive, turn the computer off then reboot. Watch the screen for which key it says to hit to change the boot sequence or boot order. Hit that key when it is shown. This is a one time solution that is only for the current boot process. To make it permanent, boot the computer an notice what keys it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. Hit that key when shown. You can change the boot sequence or boot order and make it a permanent change in the bios. The most common and best boot sequence is to have the CD drive 1st and the Hard Drive 2nd. Just make sure no disk is in the cd drive when you boot it up or you will get a error saying no boot record or system disk found.

How do I get around the error message: Non-system

What is happening is that your laptop's BIOS is not "seeing" your hard drive, it is set to boot to a USB device and one is plugged in, or it is not seeing the necessary boot files (on any device) in order to boot up. You have one of a couple problems - either your hard drive is failing or you inadvertantly deleted one or more important files needed to boot up. Happens all the time.

In order to fix your laptop, you first need to determine if your hard drive is even being recognized. You need to enter the BIOS setup and see if the hard drive listed and what the boot order is. If you don't know how to enter the BIOS, then you would probably be better served to take it to a qualified technician who can get you going.

If your BIOS does not see your hard drive, then you drive has likely failed and will need to be replaced. If it is listed in BIOS, then you will need to repair the boot files. Depending on which version of Windows you are using, it is pretty straighforward. You simply insert your Windows boot CD-ROM and boot from that disk. Ignore the first "Windows Repair" option and select "Install Windows" (if it is Windows 7 then you will be asked for startup repair, select this.) Windows will then "see" your windows installation on the hard drive and you will be asked if you want to repair it - and yes, you do. After repair, your windows should boot. You may have to reinstall some applications as the registry may or may not be scrubbed. All your data files should be intact.

Remember, always back up your computer!

Sir my laptop is unexpectedly powered off and some

Hi imran_youtub it all depends at what time it shuts down unexpectedly. If it's after a while that means that your laptop is overheating. Make sure the CPU fan is working and if it is... get a cooling pad. Also download a software called HWM Blackbox http://download.cnet.com/HWM-BlackBox/3000-2086_4-10898732.html and take notes of the temperature. If it's working above 80 C...that's the problem. Please hurry because overheating will damage the motherboard. If it's really fast, that means the motherboard is in "short" and you have to take it to a repair shop. I hope this helps and dont forget to rate my answer. Thank you very much :D

Activate windows screen and then says my windows is activated

the obvious question:
is your windows legit?
if it's not you may have a corrupted windows copy, download another copy or buy one in ebay (they're getting cheap).

if it's legit. you have may have a hardware problem so more details may be required.
1. are you doing a clean install, any errors while files are getting copied?
2. do you have hardware that did not come with your computer installed or connected, make sure you disconnect everything and as your computer starts working, reinstall and test 1 piece of hardware at a time.

good luck
