Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery.After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer

You may have an error in the registry and it is confusing the system. Run a registry cleaner utility, many to choose from on google and that should fix your problem

You will have problems. Your Laptop was designed for XP and you will need to update all of your drivers and possibly GIOS.

Most probably a capacitor exploded either in the AC adapter or on the laptop's motherboard. In order to find out where the damage exactly happened, you can either test your AC adapter with another similar laptop, or test a new AC adapter with your laptop. Alternatively, you can test the output voltage from your AC adapter using a voltmeter.
If the AC adapter turns out to be working properly, then the damage happened on the motherboard. You will need to disassemble the laptop to get access to the motherboard & inspect it. The exploded capacitor could be replaced with a new one to fix the problem.

Browse HP.com for drivers to suit your machine. As far as I am aware your machine was designed around Vista OS and if there is no driver for Win7 it will not work correctly.

Check whether there is any metallic debris in one of your USB ports.
If there is not, then there may be some something coming into contact with the circuitry leading to the USB ports that is causing the short. If that is the case, then you'll have to take the laptop apart yourself or take it in for service.
