The screen gets darker with

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like the lamp might have a problem, I would clean out the dust from the machine and see if it improves. Use canned air and a vacuum cleaner to such out the dust if you don't want to take it apart - and avoid warranty if it still has it.

Now how old, how long has the lamp been running?

If it is the first time this projector is being connected to the device it is connected on now, the signal selection might be set wrong. Check usermanual pages 47 for the signal settings and make sure they are correct.

Please get the user manual if you don't have it from here http://www.projectorcentral.com/pdf/projector_manual_3020.pdf

After you have checked the signal settings then on page 66 follow the instructions to clean the dust filters / air filters. You could also Take out the lamp from the unit, clean the machine from dust with vacuumcleaner and compressed air / canned air only. with better airflow the unit will last much longer.

If you have followed the instructions, the picture should have improved. If it has not, how old is the lamp, how many hours has it been used?

Why is it in black and white and not color?

reset the settings to factory default and swap out the cable. if that doesn't work, you have a processor issue on the main board. it'll need to be replaced..

What is the guarantee?

According to the Sony warranty card you are covered for two years on parts and labor, one year on accessories. We are not a Sony dealer/outlet, and we do not perform repairs of any kind (FixYa.com is strictly an information service). For repairs, contact the manufacturer via their web site (www.sony.com/service) or call 1-800-222-sony.

Once the filter is replaced, plug the projector back in and make sure the projector is in standby mode.  Point the remote control at the projector and press the following buttons in order in less than 3 seconds: reset, ←, →, enter.  This worked for me.  Good luck.

Ok we're back to the flashing lamp cover LED. The green flashes you are seeing is the TV trying to start up. After it tries for awhile, it will eventually shut down and display an error code, in this case, the lamp cover LED flashing which means either the lamp cover, filter cover or main cabinet sensing switches are not closed, are intermittent or have some kind of wiring issue. A solid lamp cover light (no flashing) would point to the lamp and lamp drive, but the flashing light points to the switches. Give me an email address and I'll send you the training and troubleshooting manual so you can see for yourself. Any ther help needed, please don't hesitate to ask.

Two clicks is good, it means both parts of the supply are initializing, so they are PROBABLY OK. The lamp cover LED flashing could be a simple fix. Be sure the lamp cover and filter cover are securely seated. If necessary, take them off and reseat and latch them again. There is also a sensing switch on the cabinet that will cause this if the main cabinet cover is not seated properly. Be sure all cabinet screws are securely tightened. Beyond that, Sony says there is an outside chance it is the Q board, which is the main microprocessor board, but I've never seen one fail. It's more likely to have an intermittent switch on the lamp cover, the filter cover or the cabinet (the all have little microswitches that sense when the are closed) OR a bad or intermittent connection to one of the microswitch boards (all of the sensing switches are mounted on little circuit boards and that is the way Sony supplies them as a part) OR a connection problem to the Q board where the switch lines go into the microprocessor. If I had to make a guess at this point, the covers first (make sure they are closed and not warped in any way) the switches and then the wiring and connectors. Hope this helps. I would like to hear back from you to see how it goes.

Sony VPL-VW100

OK It SOUNDS like you have problems on one of the two power boards (designated GA and GB). There are a couple of things I need you to do the next time it acts up.
1) if any lights flash, count the number of flashes. It should be a repeating cylce of so many flashes.
2) If it won't come on, unplug it for 3 or 4 minutes (to let the power supplies discharge) and then plug it back it but don't try to power it on. Count the number of clicks you hear right after you plug it in. This is very important and it tells me if one section of the supply is not coming on.
I hope this helps. Feel free to rate this solution and to award the premium solution to whomever you please.

Hey,

this is most likely a problem in the power adapter or power board. Best solution is to get it looked at by a professional, if you are going to look at it yourself, look for bulky and or broken capasitors.
