I have a compaq presario sr 1103 wm running on

You can only restore to factory settings if there is a recovery console stored on a hidden partition
(try CTRL+F11) at start-up--otherwise need to reinstall the OS with a disk.

Does my computer have sata ports, and if so

I know that particular pc comes with an Ultra DMA hard drive which is older than SATA, so I would imagine not. But just in case have a look at your motherboard and see if you can see a small black(usually, but can be other colours) L shaped port on your motherboard, like the one below:

drunknmonkey.jpeg

They usually come in pairs but not always on older boards. You can just about see the corner of a red sata port on the right.

I replaced 2 sticks of

Check your BIOS and reseat your graphics card. If your using onboard graphics then it's likely on of those RAM chips is faulty as it's sharing RAM for your video so try it one stick at a time to see which one is causing it

The fan keeps on running

Hi,
You don't have to worry about that. Fan only runs when your CPU is heating up. If you are running a lot of programs at the same time it can heat the processor and can turn the fan on. Fan also runs a lot if computer performance is slow. If you can keep your CPU in a cooler place then it will run less.
Good Luck!

The compaq will not boot up

try loading your OS cd but it will wipe out all the files on your drive. if this wont still work, then it might be prob with the hard drive itself. replace hard drive.

We recently had to disassemble our entire system.

Perhaps the Ram Memory module/s, (Stick/s) are not fully seated in the ram memory slot/s.

(Don't know if you have one, or more ram memory modules)

Even if they appear to be seated by a visual inspection, the best method is to remove, and reinstall.
This way you are assured your ram is seated fully.

(NOTE*
Before reaching inside your open computer case, disconnect the power to the computer. Unplug from the surge protector, and not from the back of the computer.

I'm sure you know about disconnecting power first, but I have to state this.

Secondly, after the computer is unplugged from power, and the computer case is open; Touch the metal frame of the computer case to relieve your body of Static electricity.

This must be done Before reaching inside the computer.

Perhaps cables have become jarred loose inside, due to moving the computer tower from one location, to another location.

Check to make sure the cables are seated, and tight.

This is HP Support, and the main support page for the Compaq Presario SR1103wm,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?product=424182&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=4&submit.x=7&lang=en&cc=us

In the list under the heading - What type of support do you need, you can click on - Manuals

On the Manuals page scroll down, and click on -
Part Replacement Instructions

This is a PDF file download. Advise letting the file download all the way, before looking through it.

With this manual you will have instructions, and illustrations for guidance to making sure the cables are tight. It shows the various cables.

The manual also shows how to replace ram memory. This way you will have instructions for removing, and reinstalling your ram memory.

Going back to the main suport page, you can click on - Product information, and will have access to an illustration, and photo of your motherboard.

On the Product information page click on -
Product specifications

On this page click on -
Motherboard Specifications MS-6577 Giovani, Giovani2

Scroll midway down the page for the motherboard illustration, and photo.

Makes it more clearer as to where the power cables, and interface cables go, as shown in the Parts Replacement Instructions manual

(Interface cables. In this case, the flat ribbon cables that go from the motherboard to the Harddrive, CD/DVD optical drives, and if there is one installed, the Floppy Drive)

If none of the above makes any sense to you, please state so in a Comment, and I'll walk you through it step, by step.

The above solution is in reference that you have just disconnected all peripherals, (Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor, etc), and have physically moved the computer system, from one location to another.

It can also be used for information if your have removed hardware components, or added hardware components to your computer, and may have missed connecting a cable.

If reseating the ram memory, and ensuring all cables are connected tightly, does not 'cure' the problem, perhaps the wires from the Front Panel to the motherboard have come loose.

(Front Panel is where the Power On button is)
There is no manual to give you for this. If this is the problem let me know in a Comment, and I will go out to my shop, and get you this information.
I have a Compaq Presario SR1103wm out there)

If the wire connectors from the Front Panel to the motherboard, (Connector on the motherboard is a Front Panel header), is Not the problem, then I suggest it is a problem with the Power Supply.

Power Supply has a weak voltage power rail. Enough power to light light's, and maybe spin fans, but not enough power to turn the Processor on.

1) ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt of power

2) EACH fan when operating can use 2 to 3 Watts

3) A typical Processor uses 55 to 125 Watts when operating at maximum capability.

Depends on what Processor it is, as to how much wattage it uses.

There is a way to test the power supply, or you can replace it with a know, good, compatible power supply for a test.

Should I have misunderstood your problem, please come back, and state so in a Comment.

The screen on

Hello 8323888916,

There are a few things that can cause this problem. Lets go through a few things to help narrow it down and possibly solve the problem.

  1. Check to make sure there are no CD's, USB drives or Floppy discs in your computer.
  2. Check to make sure your hard drive is listed and set to be the first boot device in your BIOS. You can do this usually by holding down F2 when your computer starts. Then finding the "Boot Options" or "Boot Device Order" menu. Make sure there is a hard drive listed, usually will say something like PATA, SATA, IDE and set that hard drive to the first position in the boot order list, save and exit.
  3. If this does not fix the issue you can try to do a "Repair Installation" of windows using a Windows Installation disc (not the restore discs that come bundled with a computer). This procedure will reinstall important Windows system files that can become corrupted and cause these kind of problems to happen. Note: this will be the second repair option from the windows disc you do not want to choose to enter the "Recovery Console" these two tend to get confused for one another sometimes.
  4. If that doesn't work you may need to replace your computer's hard drive as it may have failed in some way.

Hope this helps, good luck. Don't forget to leave a positive note if you found this to be helpful. Thanks!

Yes i power it on and it starts to run for about

Check your cooling fan.The job of the cooling fan is to reduce the core temperature of your processor. If it is not working the processor ends to reset, causing your shutdown.

My Compaq Presario SR1103wm doesn't have cd-rom

If your not familiar with the insides of your cpu. You can purchase an external cd/dvd/rw drive and hook it up. usually with a usb or supplied cable. To install depending on type and brand just follow the instruction that come with it. They do work very well.
