that's easy, but you never said what "some programs" are (infinite possibles and high end games worse) or CAD/CAM or other 3D engineering and rendering progs.? or top flight, Video Editing? omg. but if you open said PC and see that mother board you will see slots, the largest slot is the one called PCI-e (express) this PC came with ONBOARD

the PC is a very old and low performance model. this old PC has no express slots. most cards sold now do not use PCI now, only PCI-E express x16 your computer so old , it does not have AGP slot. so is a relic. but there are a few remaining companies that still make them. even used PCI only VGA cards are hard to find, ' those slots are very slow as is all things there. and will not ever run fast like a modern MOBO would do ! here is one, but I cant promise your unstated Prog will like it. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIACUE5MM1048 No AGP , NO PCI-Express slots at all. just old PCI (x 3) It runs 32 times slower that slot than any modern PC (express) do not expect something this old to run modern bloated apps well. it wont. nor will it ever.

Remove cmos battery from motherboard and clear the cmos with jumper and restart the system keyboard works on bios .....still it not works remove harddisk and cd-rom and then enter into the bios

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

I would suspect a corrupt file in the operating system.
If you have a startup (or system) disk, boot from that. For Windows XP, you will have to do a repair from the repair console: see this tip:

If you are running Win Vista or 7, boot from the system disk and tell it to "repair my computer."

go to intel.com use their driver update tool. you can use a USB Flash Drive if your computer no longer connects to the intenet.

If you are having problem reading and writing cds and dvds. You can try running the following fix it patch from Microsoft. If the same doesn't resolve the problem , then you would have to consider replacing the drive. As the optical drive has a laser lens, that has life duration or capacity to read and burn disks . Once the same is reached you need to replace the drive.

I don't know what you are telling to do a system clean but here are a couple of things you can do.

Download, install and run Malware bytes and clear any problems it finds.

Again fix anything it finds.

If you have problems accessing the downloads or with the install/run of the progs then it would point to a virus which is protecting itself from you taking steps to clear it.

Do not despair there are further steps you can take. Try these first and post a reply if not successful.

It sounds like the motherboard is messed up. if it ever lets you enter windows fully, then do a bios update and driver download for you chipset. if it NEVER lets you enter, take it to someone who can hook it up to their machine to see if it's the motherboard or an incompatibe device.

You'll need to get an install disk.

Do you mean the CMOS battery? (The little round one on the motherboard?)
In this case, you can replace the battery with a standard CR2032 lithium battery (3 volt, 220mAH rating). You get that at Walgreens, Radio Shack etc.

It is my understing that Windows XP was asking for a password and you chenge the one in the BIOS

Now the BIOS is asking for the password that you put when you say you resetted.

Please enter the password that you put in the BIOS and let me know if you are going to get a different screen other then the blue square with the picture of a key.

ok, well you said it was real dusty, maybe the problem resides from inside the cpu, there could be a connection problem with the ram card and the motherboard that or maybe the processor over heated and could have burnt out or the computer could be signing that there is a problem with the power box inside the cpu

Appears that recovery disk #2 is bogus. U can try to get a new set from HP (fat chance!) or you can do a reload from a normal, retail OS disk.
