sounds like a software problem. re-install your printer drivers. as far as drawing more than one sheet, it is usually a humidity problem or the pages are just "stuck" together. when you load any paper into the printer, "fluff" up the stack before putting into the hopper

Yes unfortunately both cartridges need ink in them in order to print anything on your printer.

Power on printer. Open fron top door. Gently pull forward on color cartridge to dislodge. After replacing with new unit an alighnment should be performed.

The issue your having is HARDWARE with the printer carriage. It has nothing to do with windows 7.

these noises your hearing is one of concern can you describe the noises as it may be that your carriage may have slipped or something out of those line.

connect the same way as you had it for windows 98, but the difference is you have to reinstall the drivers for XP

No, all cartridges, even if they are empty, have to be present at all times.

Windows 7 should have the correct driver built in, but if not; you can use the generic deskjet driver, any 6XX driver, and I think the 870c and 970c work as well.

to cancel all printing tasks,
switch off/on the printer
to start new.

try downloading the driver manager that is offered by hp from http://www.driverrepairs.com/hp.php it should detect your printer if its connected and find your driver. in theory that is.

To resolve this issue I suggest you to download the printing diagnostic utility which will automatically delete the pending print jobs by restarting spooller service.

check ur printer setup and set ur printer paper size 2. check ur paper size is not set to custom

its the problem in the main board of the printer that has shorted out the new colour and black cartridge in your printer which you installed.or may be one out of them.it happens some time.so you will have replace the cartridges 1 by 1 with new cartridge and check out.if still the problem then replace the board.that costs $12 plus shipping. mostly the cartridges have shorted out and replacing the cartridges will solve.
