Possibly you need a more professional program. Scanning utilities following scanners (free) aren't a "Production" tool. Using PixEdit you can scan with one single click and after the scan is finished you could scan the next stack of pages. Usually the "paper empty" sensor flag gets stuck and does not return or "fall" to the empty position when the paper ends. The flag is right next to the pad assembly. Use a compressed air can to remove any dust-debris from the flag housing. Because this flag uses gravity to return to empty position it might be usefull to use a spring to force it. Usally this is due to dirt accumulated on the glass surfaces of the scanner. Make sure that both glass windows inside the scanner are clean. Next step is to clear both CCD's (read heads) but in this case you need to disassemble the scanner.

Either you are putting the page in a wrong manner. Or you have to fix in your settings, before you start scanning on your computer. I am regarding to the scanning setting which are available on your computer. If its set to DINA4 (provided you want to scan a DIN A4 page) and you have put the page in the correct manner, then it should scan perfectly. Otherwise, the device might be defective.
