Epson Perfection 3490 PHOTO Flatbed Scanner Questions & Answers
3490 photos wont feed out after scanning
The Epson 3490 is a flatbed scanner that has an optional business card/4x6 photo auto feeder. Do you have the optional feeder attached & plugged into the correct connecter on the back of the scanner? Also, make sure the Epson scanning software has been configured to use the auto feeder. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/ProductQuickSpec.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid=48059604&category=
On my Epson Scanner I
1. Using the EPSON Scan software, edit the settings to see where the program is trying to save the file.
2. Might as well check what file type is the program currently is set to save.
Getting blinking "red light" , doesn't scan
There are a few reasons this might happen. 1) Check if the transport lock is in the locked position. Unlock the unit if it is locked.
2) An error occurred. Try restarting the computer, unplug the scanner, wait 10 seconds and reconnect the scanner. (This fixes issues where the software isn't running/fully loaded or the connection isn't solid).
Try a new USB cable and a different port. If you have a USB hub in the middle, try a direct connection. (Bi-directional communication is needed and this may show as an error if it is lost.)
3) Try unplugging the scanner from power and plugging it back in.
4) Try unplugging the optional accessories. If they fail, the unit may indicate a failure.
5) The lamp may need to be replaced.
6) Something else may have failed. Consider if it is worth having the unit serviced.
I hope one of these ideas helps.

Why is it making noise every time i turn on power
If the noise is a high pitched whirrrrr, it is the scanner warming up and getting ready for the scan job. If it clunks, or the noise "sounds bad", make sure the "Lock" is not engaged on the bottom of the scanner.

If the start button light is flashing red, it is because of one of the following problems:
- The scanner is not connected to your computer properly or your software is not fully installed.

After trying these solutions, unplug the scanner to turn it off, then plug it back in.
Scanning 110 negative film
I just finished scanning many 110 film strips. You need to lay the strip along the inside edge of slot A and scan in normal preview mode. On the preview strip, put a marquee around each individual photo and scan each one separately. Worked fine for me.
How do I clean the inside of the glass on the Epson 3490 Scanner?
Disconnect and remove the lid. Remove the two screws on the back of the base. Then use a screwdriver or flat blade to slightly open the back seam. Beginning at the back, run a blade up inside the upper part of the side seam. You will need to release three catches on each side. Once the sides are loose, raise the back of the top, while pushing forward, and the two snap catches at the front will release. The top then lifts off and you can clean the glass. Reassemble in reverse order.
Scanner quit
Is the scanner still under warranty? If so, then see if you can get complementary service for the unit. Otherwise, it might be time to junk it.
Epson 3490 Scanner not communicating properly with PC
The new PC was Vista and the CD that came with the scanner completed loading a driver without complaint. However, a new driver was needed for Vista. After downloading the new driver from Epson, uninstalling the old driver and installing the new driver, it worked.
