If your camera came with a cable, plug it into the camera, and then into your computer. Probably a USB or Firewire cable. It may have also came with a software disk. If it did, install that. If not, use Windows Movie Maker, or just open My Computer (Computer) and go to the video camera, and copy the video onto your hard drive.

You should be able to copy the videos across in the same way, but they will be in a different directory on the card than the still photos were.

Things to give a shot here:

1. take battery out to fully reset it.
2. then plug it back in
3. plug the usb cord into the computer then the camera then click the usb saftly remove icon on the task bar.

if the computer does not see the camera then the unit needs to be repaired.

check whether your system has up-to-date antivirus software. scan all of your system's drive using a good antivirus program. after completion, try again. don't forget to scan your camera memory card.

I have intermittent problems of this type too. Occasionally I get a blank screen in the display mode.

Does the red light on the back of your camera flash while the screen is dark? Mine does.

It is beginning to bug me a lot. It may be because I got my camera wet in the past (and hence I have broken my camera), but I doubt that would result in a partial failure.

I think that the Xacti HD1/HD2 has issues a bit like a blue screen of death on an old Windows computer when faced with storage problems.

I.e. it works but crashes sometimes when it cannot store to its storage medium.

These things work for me
1) Turning the power on and off via the button underneath the screen.
2) Removing and re-inserting the SD card.
3) Turning the power on and off by removing the battery.
4) Using a different (and faster?) SD card.
I am still using my HD2, but I am finding that I must attempt solutions 1-3 about once a day.

It could be because the card I have been using recently is not fast enough. The HD2 accepts both SD and SDHC cards. My SDHC card (which is newer) seems to result in fewer problems, either because the SDHC format is more suited to the Xacti HD2 or becaues the SDHC card I have is faster that then SD card I have. I suspect problems with the speed of the card. I am using cheap SD cards.

You can try Nero 8 (www.nero.com) which has a cool player (Nero Showtime) and a user friendly transcoding/DVD authoring tool (Nero Vision) to offer. You may also consider Videolan VLC (www.videolan.org) which is free, open source, less user-friendly but it supports batch file conversion -- a realloy cool features when you have a dozen+ video files to convert.

Could it be that your SD card is not fast enough? There are a lot of different flavours of SD card. Particularly, some SD cards are faster than others.

There are two main types of SD card: the original SD cards and the newer SDHC cards. The latter look the same, and the Xacti HD2 (and I guess the HD1) takes both.

The former, SD cards, have speed ratings that are given in terms of how many times faster they are than floppy disks.
Rating Speed (MB/s)
6x 0.9
32x 4.8
40x 6.0
66x 10.0
100x 15.0
133x 20.0
150x 22.5
200x 30.0

SDHC cards have a "class" rating where
  • Class 2: 2 MB/s
  • Class 4: 4 MB/s
  • Class 6: 6 MB/s

I find that my "class 6" SDHC card has few problems. This corresponds to a "40x" SD card.

Your card is pretty small at 256 MB. These days cards are much larger. Could it be that you are using an old card that you bought for a previous camera? If so, perhaps the speed of the card is only 32x (i.e. 32 times faster than a floppy) or less. Perhaps the card is too slow?

    Just an idea.

    Hi,

I too had the same problem.I tried tapping around the lens area with a hard object (tip of a screwdriver) and it worked! It may be well worth you tapping the case in this way (without pulling the camcorder to bits) on the top, about an inch back from the front of the lens a couple of times.

I think this is the only home remedy you cab try,if this doesn't work you have to get it repaired..

if you have any other problem please do ask me..

    Goodluck..

    Tip

    Black screen problem

A lot of people that bought the first generation HD1 have had a problem whereby the LCD screen goes black, but the date, image size, old pictures etc. still shows up on the screen, so it's not the screen itself malfunctioning.

This especially a problem if Sanyo refuses to honor your warranty because, like me, you bough the HD1 early on eBay and thus they claim you're not the first owner, and therefore they don't have to honor the warranty.

I had this problem too. It's caused by grease on the iris curing (setting) and jamming it locked. The motor that opens the iris when you turn the camera on isn't powerful enough to overcome it, hence the black screen.

There's a tutorial online somewhere about how to fix it yourself. But if you're like me and not that good at that sort of thing take it to a local camera repair shop and get them to fix it. Tell them what the problem is and that you need them to clean the iris blades. Emphasize you don't want them to grease them afterwards, just leave them dry and clean. The guy i took it to was very unsure when i told him all this but told me I was 100% right when i picked my camera up, and that cleaning the iris blades had fixed it.

It's been 4 months since I had it fixed/cleaned, and it's being working great every since.

PS. There's a strong suggestion Sanyo knew about this when they shipped it but shipped it anyway. It's not been proven one way or the other, but I personally will never buy a Sanyo product again.

What model Sanyo camera? What type and size memory card? Just what problem are you encountering? Is there an error message?

Sanyo Xacti... | Answered on Oct 15, 2013

Just let it dry in room temperature for a day. Then try switching on. If it still doesn't work take it to a store.

You need the RF Adapter cables. I have seen items like that at thrift stores. The camera has that barrel connector
with 6? pins to connect it to the converter box that output to Channel 3-4. Keep checking ebay or craigslist.
