I have a dell monitor

Hey there! Sorry about that.
Seems you've got a problem that you can't fix yourself, and I could help however, I need to self diagnose the monitor. But since I'm not there in person, you'll have to contact the service centre and have them fix it up.
Monitors can damage your eyes if its not in the right version of hertz. Please try fixing it ASAP
I hope that I helped you & that this post helps you at most! Don't forget to rate! =) marinora_43.jpeg

The screen goes blank after I turn on the monitor.

Look for bad caps with bulging tops/seals first: http://www.lcdrepair.us/1703fpt-1901fp-inverter-power.html

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The power button on my monitor flashes but will

There is a chance that you may have a couple bad capacitors on the power-inverter board but more than likely the problem will be a shorted out transistor. There are 4 on the inverter side of the board and one set may have gone bad. Capacitor problems may have caused the transistors to fail. Transistors are probably c5706 or c5707 and are black with 3 legs going though the board.
You would have to open it up to check and would need an ohm meter to verify if the transistors are shorted out.

Check the data connector on the Monitor. Not the power cable but the other one. Try changing that and see if it solves the problem.
