you will be better off taking this to a tech considering it is a ham radio also. he can set the freq and put it on a distortion meter also to find out the problem.

you have a crack in the pcb board.

turn the volume selector up a little at a time and see what you get.this could be a voltage problem

there is a vr for turning it up and the same one turns it down

check your mic connections ,make sure there are no broken wires.

could be a strong signal overpowering the unit and causing a continious power on check with those in the area to see if they have the same problem.

turn vr-14 all the way to the right,then all the way to the left. watch your meter and which ever way moves the needle more thats the position to leave it in.

check your voltages, bring coffee you are going to be a while.

how about galaxy.they still stock everything.

you either bought it used or you played with the inside because if the alc is all the way open then you have been inside it.got a watt meter to turn up the power.you will also need a volt meter. take it to some one that knows what to do and let them fix it.

the meter probley is bad common problem on this radio

The on/off control is has a 10K vol control? Switch and control can be tested with a ohm meter---switch will read open until switched to on (no power connected to unit) and control that is 10 K will read that from outer lugs on the control.

the voltage regulator in the freq.counter board is bed and probably a diode common problem that need to go to a professional not a DIY easy job

Have it bench tested on the bench with a dummy load as any decent shop can tell if outgoing power and modulation have a issue.

Its a lot more work then you think but it can be done . you should do a serch for a service manual online and work off of it.

smoked the reverse polarity diode.

Need more info ...but these 99v is notorious for cracking traces on the board. The frequency counter roams all over when this happens . It wont let it key up or receive. It needs a good tech to find it.
