Unfortunately this fault might need more attention as the set must be opened out.
Try to remove battery and reset, dry out by keeping the set warm, clean the display panel of any dirt.
if this wont work the camcorder must be openend and checked on the diplay panel if there is any line stips, the flexible lines being cut or broken. remove and fix connectors, if set was not used for long time put the set ON for several hours.
If this wont work you must contact Sony service to confirm if the display control board is faulty

for sony if you do not have a disk that came with the camera you do not need one ...but here I will link you to the support site and see if there is any download for your cam Usually if it has a Firewire connection cable it only need a manager to operate the download...
If the camera has a memory card ..the easiest way is to store the footage on the card and use it directly on the computer 's card reader..anyway..another way is to use a dvd in the camera directly ...finalize the disk to be readable and use it to get the files into computer and there copy all and paste on the hard disk in any location you have space ..and after that edit it like you please...Even without having a very fancy program you can edit in windows movie maker available in any windows since XP..

Hi. Just a tip, try to do a calibration on the touchscreen. If it still does not work, there is a problem with your touchscreen itself. Hope this help. Goodluck

Try first removing internal battery to reset camcorder. This is first necessary step in troubleshooting.

The lens is probably dirty and the camcorder does not detect that there is the correct media inside.

Try using a lens cleaner disk or cleaning the lens directly, using extra-soft QTips and isopropyl alcohol or cleaning solution.

Lens cleaning operation may affect your warranty status, before proceeding call manufacturer.
Also, even if very rarely, the direct cleaning may damage the camcorder if done with too much strenght or in the wrong way. Do it at your risk.

Click Sony Support link, select Windows OS in drop down list that you are running in computer to download related driver/ update.
However, Picture Package Software disc is also available in Sony Accessories Store for $29.95 under following part number.

the issue is that your camera exports this movies in a format that the movie-maker do not recognize ...so ..what you really meed it is a movie converter to convert the files you download from the camera into such files that are seen by the movie maker..

this is a converter like I mentioned...it is a free universal one ..but on the net there are better instruments also...try it ..if it works its fine ..if it do not see your exported files to convert them in avi or mpeg4 ...just look on the internet for another one that does a similar job ..

That happens when lens is dirty or defective.

Try using a cleaner disk a couple of times.

If that does not work you can try cleaning the lens with QTips and isopropyl alcohol. Be aware that there is risk to damage the lens pickup more using this procedure. Do it at your risk.

If still no luck, then the lens pickup is faulty and must be repaired by a technician. In that case I suggest contacting Sony support at the number listed on your manual.

Recommend you to try this exciting program ,it can convert VOB. to any popular format as you like ,such as you could use this program to transfer the file to avi or wmv in order to edit this fim into windows Movie maker.

I'm really not sure, but have you tried finalizing the disc?

the flexwire is the problem of your camera, the touch screen connection is already cut..go to a service center for replacing or repairing the flexwire...is not easy for repairing that if you are not a technician that wiring is like a strand of hair that why is difficult to fix but in our shop we modified that and become more durable than the original...

I haven't the solution, but this may help some users. The camera has a LCD calibration menu. If LCD doesn't work properly use the remote control to get in to it. Try to calibrate the screen. This may be some help however didn't work for me, because I got no response from LCD panel. To calibrate remove all data (disc and memory stick). Click play/edit button, then use the remote control to p-menu > setup > standard set > calibratio. good luck!
