My maytag legacy series top
That grinding noise your hearing is most likely the center bearing in a maytag they are usally very easy to break and mainly because when they make maytags they dont put the right type of grease on the bearing itself which causes the machines not to last the 10 years that we all think they could. This repair is honestly not worth the amount of money that it would cost to repair I've seen technicians price this job out between 450 as a low and 600 as a high and considering you can buy a brand new top loader for 2-400 it really isnt worth the effort in trying to resurect the machine. Please also note maytags are notorious for the center bearings disintergrating because of poor factory assembly. Sorry about the bad news. when looking for a new washer if your going with a top loader stick to the whirlpool there easy to fix cheap for parts and last alot longer. Please remember to rank this opinion and if i can answer any further questions please message me back. Thanks again (p.s. on whirlpool make sure if you buy a new one you ask if the drive couple has metal around the shaft dont get the plastic one they let go in two years and then techs charge 180 bucks to repair a 6 dollar part)

If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Hi
You likely have a drain line that has come loose between the tub and the pump, or the small hose for the level detection has come off.
Pull the washer out, remove access panel, and you should be able to see where it is leaking from, even if you have to tilt it forward.
Will not spin
Hello,
There
are several reasons that a washing machine won't drain or spin. The
cause could be something as easy as a clog or something difficult that
will need a licensed repairman. Start with the simplest possible cause
and work down to the more difficult causes.
INSTRUCTION BELOW
A
washing machine won't spin if the water can't drain. Check hoses for
any kinks or clogs that may prevent the water from draining. If a hose
has kinks, try to straighten out the kinked hose. If it can't be
straighten sufficiently, replace the hose. If hoses are not kinked,
check for clogged hoses. This can be done by using the screwdrivers to
remove the hoses and looking for clogs or running a water hose through
the clogged hose to remove the clog. Use the rags and bucket to clean
up the water that comes out of the hoses when they are disconnected.
Once the clog is cleared, put the drain hose back into place. The
washer should drain and spin now if a clogged or kinked hose was the
problem.
2
If
the washer still won't drain or spin, check to see if the lid is not
closing all the way or if the lid switch is not clicking into place.
Close the lid and make sure that it closes all the way down. When the
lid closes, the lid switch should click. If there is no clicking sound,
then the switch may need to be replaced. Follow manufacturer's
directions for replacing the switch. If the lid does not close all the
way, visually check for signs that the lid is bent. If bent, try to
bend it back into place.

Loose
or broken belts could also prevent a washing machine from draining or
spinning. Pull the washer away from the wall and, using the
screwdrivers and wrenches, remove the back panel. Using the flashlight,
visually check for any broken or loose belts. Replace any broken or
loose belts. Although replacing washing machine belts is difficult,
anyone who has replaced belts on a car, lawn mower or even a bicycle chain should be able to accomplish the task.
4
Another
possibility for a washing machine to not spin or drain is the pump.
With the back panel still off the washer, check the pump with the
voltmeter to ensure that the pump is getting power. If the washer is
getting power, turn on the washer and listen to find out if the pump is
running but the water is still not draining. It may be necessary to
remove the pump and clean it or to replace the pump with a new one.
Once the pump is replaced, turn on the washer to determine if it will
now drain and spin.
5
If
all of the above steps fail to produce a washing machine that drains or
spins, then it is time to call a professional repairman. Use the
screwdrivers and wrenches to replace the panel on the washer and push
it back against the wall
thanks and good luck.

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.
This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.
These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.
NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

Maytag washing machine leak
I've got the same problem going on. You can take the front off the machine . Its two panels held on by four screws. This will expose the "guts of the machine, plus you can lift the top up, but not really enough to do a major repair. You will be able to see the water leaking though. Good luck. I bought mine used about three years ago and am thinking its not worth fixing. The machine I'm guessing is about 8=9 years old. If your looking for a used machine, you might want to check with a "Resale" type store. We have a Habitat for Humanity Resale store that gets good used appliances in sometimes. Of course, whenever you buy used, your taking a chance. However, when you look at the cost of new ones compared to used ones a couple of years old, it might be worth it. I looked at Maytags at my local Lowes, and they were about $600.00. Used ones are about $100.00. Good luck. Hope things work out for you.
Water leaking underneath. the back of the washer
Check behind , nothing like looking at the fault than to speculate. Can be due tto many reasons but unless the source of leak is understood we may have to give many suggestions. so move your washer , put it to test and watch.
