It seems as though the controller is "Hanging Up?" now this doesn't seem to be supported by any "Faulty" parts, as evidenced, it WILL work, after it is re-initialized, it is also doubtful it is a sensor either, though it may pay to check them all? So this really only leaves us with the actual controller itself, which is where i think you will find your problem, the only "Fix" is complete replacement,. with a new or reconditioned one.
