How to disassemble a k45ss mixer
Hey Scott,Look on the internet just do a search for k45ss tear down and you will find a manual with step by step instructions, if you get stuck we can help and we can put you on to all the sites with the parts that you need.
Revolves slowly, smoke from back
Houston we have a problem!Smoke is from only one of two issues:1 (The ugliest) you have an abundance of food dust (flour) in the mixer and it is burning. You will need to do a full tear down and clean everything and re-assemble (Yuck City)2 (The most unknown) you have electric problems and it could be any of five different parts that need to be replacedPossible problems are1 plastic coating on wiring has rubbed off and it is touching metal, unlikely as it would cause a full short and trip a breaker but not unheard of especially if it is the negative line.2 (The worst) your motor is going or gone. It comes in two parts the armature (most likely) and the field assembly (less likely)3(The best) the speed control switch has developed a short and needs to be replaced4 (The hardest) Slow turning may indicate that a bearing is bad at the front of the armature or at the rear (there are two in the machine) causing the armature to bind and smoke5 (The best) the carbon brushes are worn down to the nubs and they are burning on the commutator part of the armature causing smoking and slow revolutions. my recommendation is to replace the brushes first as they are the cheapest and easiest to fix. After that you are into a full tear down of the machine which will require new gasket new gear grease additional parts to repair with and re-timing the machine to get the speed correct. I realize that there are no directions to accomplish any of the possible solutions. That is for another discussion, first you have to decide if you want to do it yourself or have it done by a KA tech. Please let us know what you want to do as there is help available.
When under a load (such as bread dough) my locking
Well I afraid that you will not like the answer. The locking latch on a tilt head mixer can only be fixed replaced or repaired by taking the motor head apart. The bottom from the top.1 remove mixer from stand2 remove silver drip ring3 remove rear end cap4 remove locking pin in the planetary5 remove planetary6 remove nine screws in bottom of mixer7 separate top from bottom of motor head8 do not tear gasket or you will have to replace it (buy on line)9 inspect locking latch and tighten or replace as needed10 check gear grease and replace if all hard or all runny11 reassembleSorry this is not an easy fix but it is do-able. You will need throw away rags a nice flat work space and some patience. I f you have never done a mechanical fix to anything it should take you about two hours, if however you are mechanically inclined and not afraid to tackle new projects should take you about forty-five minutes. let us know if we can help you.
No Power to Mixer
If the motor worked prior to removing the brushes you most likely installed the brushes incorrectly. Remove the brushes and using a flash light look in the brush holder on the mixer. You will notice a small tab at the very end. That tab will prevent the brush from coming in contact with the motor armature if installed incorrectly. Clock the brush so that the angled side lines up with the tab and you should be back in business. Also if you are installing the original brushes use the wear marks to determine which side the brush came out of.
The original issue you had is most likely the nylon gear that is talked about in other posts on here.
Good luck
Knocking sound, pin loose
"Screws just fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place." John Bender - The Breakfast Club.
I came across this site looking for the same answer. I tinkered with my KSM90 model and think I found the solution.
If the hinge pin is vibrating out of its slot, unplug the mixer and flip it upside down. (Removing the bowl makes it easier). You should see a screw centered over the hinge pin. Center the hinge pin and tighten the screw.
This should do it, although I tightened about every other screw on the machine before I found this one.

Kitchen aid unlocks
By unlocks I have to assume that the mixer head can be lifted up during operation (yes that's really messy ans in some cases maybe even dangerous) I have to assume that you also mean the the head lock switch is not engaging, You have to take the mixer apart to re attach the mixer lock switch. There are several really good videos on youtube that shows step by step procedure for taking the mixer apart. you will see the switch when you have the mixer apart. tighten the screw down tight enough to make the switch engage again. Re-assemble the mixer.

KITCHEAID K5SS NO SOUND, DOESNT TURN ON
Could be a variety of issues. There is a circuit breaker located in the top section I believe, but I am thinking it is a thermal breaker. It is possible the brushes have worn out on the motor if it has seen a lot of use.
Kitchenaid kp26m1xer won't turn on
If the mixer died completely and no noise at all comes from the machine you need one of three things. 1. New brushes2. new speed control switch3. a new motor. The KP26 is a 6 quart mixer of the new design, post 2002, it is easy to work on and relatively inexpensive for parts if it turns out to be the motor that will be about $100.00, the speed control about 30.00, the brushes on this mixer cannot be replaced you have to install a new motor, sry about that. Hope this helps let us know. But first check that the electric outlet you are working from has not tripped the breaker on the circuit too. I know I know it's silly to say but check the outlet first before you spend a dime on anything.
Kitchenaid mixer has 8 speeds only works on 3 & 6
Don't mean to be short but it looks as though you need a new speed control board, get it on ebay for about 12.00 dollars, after you replace it you will need to adjust the speed board properly and there are several tutorials on utube that will walk you through it pretty easily, Hope this helps. Beater issue

Model km25g
It sounds like your problem may be with the motor itself rather than the planetary, or with the board the motor switch is attached to. I think you need to test whether the motor is getting power when the switch is moved on. if it is, the motor may need to be replaced. If the switch is faulty, replace the board the switch is attached to.
I have a kitchenaide mixer and now it will not turn on
Remove those plastic caps again and this time remove the brushes from the side of the mixing head. Inspect the curved surface of the brush and clean any carbonized flour from the surface - be careful not to damage the surface of the carbon brush.
When replacing the brushes make sure they go in the correct way - there is only one way, the brushes will not go in far enough if they are in the wrong orientation. Trial and error works, watching how far in the brushes go. once you have found the correct position, the brush will go in 1/4 inch further than the other three positions.
My K455 mixer seems to

Beater hard to remove...oil leaking out of the
The agitater shaft that the beater attaches to is bent and needs to be replaced. It's easy to do . You should replace the shaft , pin, and seal above it. You may also want to replace the part the shaft mount through, to stop oil leak. You can google the model number and find a parts breakdown for the part numbers .
