Canon PowerShot SD30 Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Canon powershot sd30 digital elph
I have same problem. I turn on the camera you hear it trying to come on, shows display pic for like 3 seconds and then shuts down. If I could get the lens to retract I am sure the camera would work.
White screen for all outdoor pictures
Sorry to say this sounds like a stuck open shutter mechanism. Put the camera in any mode other than auto and make certain that you turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself in the following step). Next look down the center of the lens barrel and
take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker (wonder where that website got that name?) in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen then it's likely stuck.
Some people have had success in unsticking Canon S2 IS shutters with the following procedures. It may or may not work for you:

Then it sounds like there may be an error with your CCD (what comverts the light going into your camera into a digital picture, like digital film). even if your warranty is expired canon may still repair this for free. Contact canon at 1-800-OK-CANON and explain to them the problem and that you think the CCD may be defective.
How do I attach the wrist strap to the Canon PowerShot D30 camera
The wrist strap has a thin loop on one end. Thread this thin section (like threading a needle) through the strap hole. (It's on the left side of the camera. There are two openings with a bar over the top of the center of them at the bottom corner of the camera body.) Start threading from the middle of the body of the camera and push the strap towards the bottom of the unit. You may need to twist the loop to narrow it and keep it tight. Once you have this narrow loop through the camera, open up the loop and slide the thick material through the center of this thin loop. Pull the wrist strap until the thin loop tightens around the bar.
This is shown on page 12 of the D30 manual. The manual is available from Canon support on the Powershot page:

I hope this helps.

(Many lanyard straps for electronic gear work the same way. Threading the narrow section under that bar does require decent near point vision. People who are far-sighted may need to wear bifocals or ask someone younger to assist.)
