Lens cover will not fully open .It normally opens as the lens extends. Opens just a crack.
easy fix. yo turn it on and then very lightly tap the lens cover or push it out. then you should clean the lens because the dirt or dust on the lens is stopping the lens cover.

my powershot a530 tells me memory card error and i dont have a clue where to even start to try to fix it
Having gone nearly two years without a response to my query, I assume my suggestion to use an SD card instead of an SDHC card solved the problem.

I have recently bought a Canon A530 and it keeps on blinking red Low Battery signal after less than 10 photos, even with brand new rechargeable 2500 NiMH batteries. My serial number starts with "27". Can you help me.
Thanks
Alicia
Alicia,
Mentioned on my blog that the last paragraph of the advisory states:
""PowerShot A530 and A540 digital cameras affected by this phenomenon will be repaired free of charge, regardless of warranty status. Accordingly, if the opening/closing spring on the inside of the battery cover of your PowerShot A530 or A540 digital camera sticks out, please do not use the camera. Instead, please contact a Canon call center (1-800-OK-CANON) at your earliest convenience."
But also mentioned that if they don't help, a temporary fix is to insulate the spring from the battery contact plate. Merely place a small piece of tape between the portion of spring that's sticking out and the metal battery contact plate.

Hi. I read your answer, unfortunately not helpful for me. I do use 2500 mAh NiMH batteries. The behaviour is strange. Usually fully charged batteries cannot recharge the flash capacitor more than 3-4 times. Very seldom something happens, and after some ON/OFF trials I can take some more pics with flash. I try to treat the batteries as required, but that does not help.
in this model the flash IC becomes faulty if so u should consult an expert.

Here's a weird problem. I just dragged some pictures directly from the camera, connected to my pc via USB, to an email in Outlook and sent the email. The person I sent them to couldn't open them, and when I tried to re-download them from the email I sent, all I got from them when I tried to open them was a 4x4 square that said "Invalid Image." If I right click on the pics I downloaded from the email, their Properties all say that they are 0 bytes. Anyone know what could have happen?
Could you have sent a RAW image? Try sending a jpeg.

How do I unlock camera card in my camera--never had this happen before.
my camera is a canon. my camera says my memory card is locked, but i don't know how to even lock it. how do i unlock it?
Little sliding switch on the side of the SD memory card. Remove from camera, slide switch away from lock position, re-install and you should be good to go.

Without warning, my Canon PowerShot A530 ceased to function correctly. I turned it on, and it automatically zoomed all the way in. I can now only take pictures like that, and none of the buttons except the on/off and the mode dial work. It was never dropped or exposed to any rough elements, so I'm at a loss as to what could've caused it. Any suggestions?
Try taking out the batteries and leaving it for 24 hours

MEMORY CARD ERROR, CARD LOCKED BUT IT ISN'T LOCKED HOW CAN I FIX IT
When this problem occur you need to set the memory card unlock or not protected. Remove the memory card from camera and you can see a small button in the memory card, so you need to slide that to set the memory card unlock or not protected.

I have a Canon Powershot Camera, a few years old, I've never had a problem with it. I only have a 512MB card in it, but I bought a 4GB and it says "memory card error" or "card locked" The card is not locked, and when I try to use the format option on the camera, it is not a valid option. I have tried 2 different cards with no luck. My old 512 still works, but I want to be able to take more video. Do you have any idea why my camera will not use the new 4 GB cards?????
It's a good bet that anything 4GB or greater is a SDHC card (look on the card, see if SDHC is written there). Your A530 was designed before the new SDHC format came out. Sorry, but your camera will not recognize this type of card. Recommend instead that you get a 2GB standard SD card. They're relatively inexpensive these days.

my camera takes the picture....we can look at photo we have taken.....later some of the pictures disappear (lost) and we can not retrieve them when we transfer them to the computer. This has happened before. half of the pictures taken in a single day get lost..
You may have never formatted your memory card. This can eventually lead to errors like you're experiencing. First download all available pictures from the card. Next turn on the camera in preview mode. Press the menu button, then select the "tools" menu (second one from left). Go down the menu to the menu item stating your memory card's capacity and select it. Next select "Yes" to format. Note that this will also totally erase your card, so again make sure to FIRST download your pictures.
