What does "memory card error" mean

It usually means that you are using an SDHC card in a camera that only understands SD cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

If that isn't the problem, it may mean that your card needs formatting or has become corrupted, which will be fixed by formatting it. Formatting deletes everything on the card.

If that isn't the problem, then there may be a fault with the card or camera.

Bought new Memory cards for Power Shot A530, it

Hi!
I'd guess that the memory card you've bought is a SDHC card and/or a card of more than 2GB, which - unfortunately - is NOT supported by your camera.
Please note that it only supports normal SD or MMC cards in capacity of up to 2GB.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

I cannot locate my digtal solution disk

You can download Canon software from
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a530#DriversAndSoftware

You might want to consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

How to unlock memory card

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My cannon a 530 says that it has a memmory card

No that's not likely the problem. The new card is probably the issue, especially if it is 4GB or higher. There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use of a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Even though the sd memory

Hello(Read the whole solution, i think you have the second scenario)

OK, if the memory card itself is locked, you might sometimes get this error code. All you need to do is to take out the memory card and switch the lever on the left side to the unlock.

6c99e31.jpg

If the error is still displayed after you did the above, you might want to try the card in another camera.

If the card works in another camera . the problem is with your card reader in your camera.

If you open you sd slot and look inside with a sharp light , you should be able to see on the left side of the slot there is a little copper or spring steel lever switch. This switch work as follows:

1. When no card is inserted / no write protection , the switch is open and thus the protection is off.
2. When locked card is inserted , the tab is depressed and tells the camera that the card is lock.

Contrary to popular belief ,the little tab on the sd card is not an electronic switch and does not physically influence the card operation itself. If you put a locked card into a camera without a sd lock switch , you would still be able to use the card normally.

It is incredible difficult to fix this switch because of space limitations in the sd card. Look into the sd slot and if you can see the switch , use a needle to pull the little tab down toward the base of the camera by about 2mm or until it works being careful not to bend it.

If this does not resolve your problem , there might be a short in the switch circuit and the camera will need to be disassembled to resolve this error. This should cost no more than $50.

Please feel free to contact me if you need further information

Kind regards
Andrea

Canon Power shot A530 repeatedly displays "change

First make sure that you are using quality batteries, and not "super heavy duty". If so, some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

I can only take like

Actually, your camera is probably telling you the internal memory is full. To get the camera to write to the card, you need to get rid of everything on the internal memory. Here's how...with no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Then, your card should work properly.

Didn't receive a manual for

Since you don't have the user manual for this camera , it will be best if you download a copy of the manual from this link and use it for your reference to be familiar with the camera. Just click HERE and proceed with the download of the manual and save a copy to your computer.

As for the USB cable that you need to connect the camera to your computer for file transfer you can go get a replacement cable from any electronic or computer store near your area just take the camera with you so they can give you the proper usb replacement.

Batteries don't last. New batteries don't work

There could be some problems w/ the battery terminal on the camera. If this camera still has a warranty go use it. Or you can update the firmware of your camera w/c can be downloaded from Canon's website( if there's a firmware avail for this model)

The only problem with the camera is that i have to

Because of the power drain due to the functions you use and the resolution of your pictures, alkaline batteries in digital cameras will drain fairly quickly. The best bet is to get some high capacity rechargeable NiMH AA batteries (at least 2500MAH). This should give you the photo taking life your want.
I would get at least 6 rechargeables (the 15-minute rechargeables) so that you have a couple of changes available and you can quickly recharge them.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Please rate this solution. Thanks.

The A530 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it will fit into the slot, it won't work there. You need to go with SD cards 2GB and smaller.
