Thomas, You will find a small knob on the card which makes it write protect. If the issue persist try any other card.

Has the card been "protected" with the sliding switch on the side? This would prevent any writing to the card.Hope this helps

Format doesn't change the image format, it formats the memory card, wiping it clean and preparing it for further use. If you haven't done anything to the card since formatting it, you may be able to recover at least some of the pictures. Do a Google search for "data recovery software" and select a program appropriate for your computer and operating system. Sound like a malfunctioning CCD (Charge Coupled Device) image sensor.
