Does anyone know the default BIOS password for a

Don't know the generic password, you probably can get it if you contact Panasonic about this, but you can however reset the password. To reset the BIOS password read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD.

Where is the ethernet cable connected to this

This is an older laptop that comes with a modem (RJ-11 on the back), not an ethernet adapter onboard. You can try to get a PC card ethernet adapter (type 2 or type 3 fit the slot) or a USB ethernet adapter. The USB port was not available on models that came with WinNT.

I wish I could be of more help.

My Panasonic CF 27 runs properly for 15 minutes,

A program is badly designed. When this happens open Task Manager and look for the process that is using all the processing power - close it and uninstall it.

Internal wireless modem on but

check the network adapters in control panel, right click on the wireless adapter, check to see if it was inadvertently set to "disabled" then there is also sometimes a wireless off/on soft switch like FN button and a corresponding number key (look for the wireless icon), and sometimes a wireless physical switch on the front or side. if the above all fails. Identify the adapter. I would flip it over to get at the bottom, next I'd take the bottom cover off to expose the wireless adapter, this cover is typically marked with an antenna icon on the bottom. the card fits into a small slot about 1 inch wide held in by two clips on the outside. very easy to get out. then look at all the markings to identify what wireless make/model the card it is. and you can also check to make sure its not gotten knocked out of its seat. Now you know what your dealing with you can surf to the manufacturers website and look for a "driver" or software for your operating system. eg. vista. or xp. download, install , reboot. and with an ounce of luck. it will now work. (alot of these adapters also install ) best of luck. Cheers

Is a Panasonic CF 27 Toughbook able to have

This is taken from Microsofts website directly...

These are the minimum requirements for basic functionality. Actual requirements vary, depending on the system configuration and the programs and features that you choose to install. If you are installing Windows XP over a network, you may need additional available hard-disk space.

The minimum hardware requirements for Windows XP Home Edition are:
  • Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or faster (300 MHz is recommended)
  • At least 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM (128 MB is recommended)
  • At least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available space on the hard disk
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and a Microsoft Mouse or some other compatible pointing device
  • Video adapter and monitor with Super VGA (800 x 600)or higher resolution
  • Sound card
  • Speakers or headphones
And from what I have seen (THANK YOU for the model #) your system SHOULD be able to run it at bare minimum.

Does the panasonic cf27 have an ADSL port?

I was able to (http://all-tech-thoughts.blogspot.com/2010/05/linux-on-panasonic-toughbook-cf-27.html) all about the CF27 and apparently it does not have the required port (an Ethernet RJ-45).

They do sell PCMCIA ethernet cards if you wanted to add one.

I get a 110v ac shock from my cf27

hmm this could be anywhere, But I would start at the power pack first. If that has a short then it can and will kill your laptop. Only 5v should be running through the motherboard. The PP brings 110 to the plug which is then rectified down to 5v so anywhere from the PP to the input plug on the mother board could be causing it to be live.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

U tube videos play slow and sound plays first then

That may be your network connection or your cpu load. I'm going to say your cpu.

On a older laptop like that the cpu can run out of power when playing video's. The extra ram should have made some improvement for other things and helped a bit with the video.

First we want to do ctrl-alt delete to bring up your task manager. Look at the CPU usage number. With nothing else running it should be 0-1% maybe as high as 2% then drop to zero. Anything higher than that and you have too much running. If you click on the top of the colom where it says CPU it will sort by cpu use. You may have to scroll up or down to get to the big numbers, most should show zero. The big number should be system idle at say 95%+ followed the task manger taking up most of the rest. Usually what happens on older machines is they don;t have the extra horsepower to cope with all the new programs demands so they bog down. So what you can do to help this is to stop anything that you don't need from running. These are things like speed loaders or auto updates. For example if you run office or use adobe products you don;t need to have it load a speed loader (which doesn;t really seem to speed up anything) everytime. If you look at what is in the start-all programs-startup these are things that are loaded at startup. Removing things from here will stop them from auto starting. If you don;t know what these things are chances are you never use them. If you drag them out of the startup to the previous menu you can still manually start them.

Next make sure you don;t have any messengers running. Most seem to set themselves up to load with windows. Some like MSN are bad for loading the cpu. So under the options for those uncheck load at windows startup.

And last you may be running a antivirus program. These are also pretty hard on the cpu. Usually there is an icon near the clock. If you right click on it there is usually a menu selection that will turn off (or back on) the antivirus program . It should restart when you reboot.

You may also want to see if there are any other programs or managers such as print mamagers or other programs that want to load at boot. Either disable these from auto starting or exit from them before trying to watch.

Those are the easy things to try to speed things up. I have a old compaq I use for watching videos from time to time that is about the same as yours. These are the tricks I use to watch youtube vids. When I don;t turn them off etc I had the same symptoms.

- if you hear some ticking sound when u open it most likely it is HDD issue

- then put the battery in try if it will turn on

OS wont recognize wireless modem

This happen regularly on the older Toughbooks. Find an XP or Win2000 modem driver for the 27 or 72 at Panasonic's support site or driverguide.com and it should work just fine. It will allow the machine (XP) to recognize the modem and install the drivers.spellcheck.gif
