A repeating 5 orange flash is supposed to mean a foreign object inside the machine interfering with the print head. Check at both ends or the carriage track for a crumpled up wedge of paper. If nothing is there, check down the back paper feed path. If still nothing, it is possible the print head is overheating and is about to die.

It means that the purge assembly, thats the cleaning unit where the printhead parks when off on the right, is jammed and cannot move.Look for paper or foreign material stopping it from moving. Sometimes the squeegee unit needs to be pushed back if the pads get stuck under it...

are you saying that the ink cartridge is not genuine canon many machines will report if a generic cartridge is used and some will not operate with a generic cartridge installed

Hi, try doing a printer head cleaning procedure, available on the maintanance/ repair screen of the printer, then do a test pattern. If the problem is not resolved you will have to do a deep cycle head clean (which uses a lot of ink- as a last resort). All the best. Good luck.

This printer comes with a USB cable so you will need to use the software that came with the printer and run it. Should be pretty simply. In some cases, you just plug it in and it "finds" the printer and installs a generic driver. However if you want to use the software that comes with it, use the CD

Unless you can re-write the printer's internal programming which is looking for all colors to be present, the best option is to invest in a black-only laser printer which prints much faster and cheaper. You can give the old printer to someone that wants to print photos or other color work. HP makes beautiful printers, but their machine software leaves something to be desired. Good luck!
