I found someone had placed a piece of tape on the cork where the scanner feeds in which was causing the sensor to believe parper was there. When I removed the tape the red light went off.

Its dirt! It takes just one tiny speck of dirt on the lens to make a vertical line.

I couldn't run down a mac driver for this machine anywhere, so my answer would be no. Panasonic only made Windows drivers, and your only recourse would be to see if Apple has recently developed a driver for this scanner.
Otherwise, you might purchase a used windows based system to operate it- I see no alternative.
Sorry about the bad news.

Make sure the scanner glass is clean and there are no foreign objects.
If the streak is a white line then it could be a ink cartridge problem.

If you want to scan in TIFF, you need to scan in monochrome only. (B&W). Change SCanner settings.

You can save the JPG as a TIF but if you want to directly save them as TIF you need to adjust the settings in the program you use to scan withy, are you using windows xp or ? and what software ?

Check your Scan settings. Are you scanning in Color and at what resolution. If the resolution is high, then file size will be big and with Win 98, I presume your system is old and hence slow. It wil take time to write the data on to the Hard disk. Check if your Hard disk has enough and contiguous space. If in B&W mode, try TIFF compressed instead of BMP. If nothing works, you may have to uninstall and reinstall the driver software. Run Scandisk and reinstall after this is done. S. Mohan, Chennai, India

yes normal. thier are 2 black rollers. they are spring loaded so when the door is closed the correct tension is applied to them.
