SAGGING DRUM

Here is the owner's manual: https://www.maytag.com/content/dam/global/documents/201003/owners-manual-33002581.pdf And here is the parts list: https://www.maytag.com/content/dam/global/documents/201104/parts-list-MDE6200AYQ.pdf There are at least two roller wheels that support the dryer drum that will probably need to be replaced. Never replace just one...always replace them together. Have fun!

What will prevent my dryer from starting? The controls are working but it seems to have something keeping the tub from taking off!

Pull on the belt...make sure it isn't stretched or broken.RemRemove the belt from the motor pulley and see if the motor will spin. Make sure you have the correct voltage. A 220v dryer requires 2 legs with 110v on each. If MOTOROLA Does Not Spin Check Voltage At motor. There should be a schematic inside the dryer (usually taped near the control panel) this will tell you if the motor is 110 or 220 v. If the motor has sufficient power but won't turn it is probably bad. ( note some 220v motors may have a start capacitor on it...this gives a boost to the electricity to get the motor started...if it goes bad the motor will not start..)

What colors on electrical cord go with what screw on dryer?

I don't know about your dryer, but as far as the cord.......normally a black and a red are 110v each, the white is a common and the green is an earth ground. Check your manual for the machine

Odor

if you have a bad odor, pull off the vent line from the back and see if an animal is dead there,i've found dead birds, mice and a possum,in the blower wheel of some dryers, they get in from the outside hood, once they get into the vent line and slide down they can't climb back out or if the dryer is running the wheel does a job on them.also if you had some painting or staining done this also can make the dryer smell bad.this is going by what i've found when someone complains about an odor in the dryer.hope this helps, one more thing if the motor is overheating from the dryer not being cleaned out it could have like a shellac smell, you might have to take the dryer apart to see what's stinking or it could be something near the dryer, when the air is heated in the dryer it makes the smell worse but if you find waht is causing it and remove it the smell will go away,if it is from a dead animal you can wash down the area with soapy water, you don't want to use anything with a strong smell because your clothes will smell of that when the dryer heats up.what does it smell like?

Replace blower belt

unplug it,open the door, remove the two phillips screws that hold the door on and remove the other two on the other side, remove the door and pull the front panel off, just tilt the top of panel out, remove the four 5/16 inch screws that hold the front bulkhead on,then remove the top screws and the L bracket on top, remove the front bulkhead, pop off the metal wire holder on the right side and stick the bulkhead on the right side of the machine so you can remove the drum, lift the top panel up a few inches and slide out the drum, you'll see the mark on the drum from the old belt, put the belt on the drum ribs down against the drum, slide the drum back in,grab the belt, put it under the belt pulley, pull the pulley over to the motor and connect the belt on the motor shaft, put the dryer back together the same way you took it apart, you'll notice two short screws, they go into the holes that have a space around the hole, one goes in the bottom and then the other opposite side up top.hope this helps.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eeJvqhHEYY

Extremely screeching noise when running?

Screeching is the metal-on-metal contact of the drum touching the rear of the unit while
turning - there's a (usually) felt cover gasket over the circular depression at the back of the dryer.
When this wears through (after a number of years/loads), you get the screeching of
metal-to-metal contact.
Problem: friction can heat up the metal so much that the remaining felt gasket material (and/or
accumulated lint or clothing) catches fire.
Fix: replace felt drum gasket.
The Maytag Atlantis MDE6400AY electric dryer has a DuraCushion(tm) dryer drum, so I'm
suspecting the "DuraCushion" has worn out at least at one point in its 360-degree arc.

My maytag atlantis dryer is making a thumping

Hi fitzdog37...
You have two problems it sounds like...
1...Belt is being burned by the motor because it is slipping.
2...Drum rollers in need of replacement.
Here is some help below:

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to check/replace/repair your drum motor, drum seals, belt, rollers, etc.
If replacing drum seals be sure to use a good grade of weather proof cement to hold the seal/s in place, some seals are furnished with the cement to glue it in place.
Note: This method works for most front loading machines.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer if necessary. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other electrical connections.
Remove the lint filter and the two screws that hold the filter housing to the top of the dryer lid.
Then remove the top of the dryer by inserting a screwdriver between the top and frame on each side of the dryer to pop the lid up from the retaining clips.
Note: Some of the tops tilt backwards on a type of hinge and do not have to be removed completly.
Remove the front of the machine by disconnecting the door switch and removing the two screws located on either side of the dryer frame.
Move the door and front of machine forward to remove.
This will expose the belt, idler bracket and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
Note:The way the belt goes back on is, as the belt comes off the drum has to be doubled (pushed together to form a loop) and goes under the idler pulley then to the motor pulley.

While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil or a vasoline type of lubricant. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

Maytag electric dryer smells like

Suggest you clean the lint trap AND THE exhaust hose. If either is blocked up, the dryer could overheat - and cause a fire if it gets too hot.

Hi ulmer bob..
Here is some things to try and hopefully get your dyer going again.
