Hampton Bay Dehumidifier Model# HB50

I'm having a problem with our Dehumidifier in the basement. It's the typical portable basement unit. The unit kicks on and off every 10 seconds. It sounds like the condensor is kicking out, but I'm not sure if it's the capacitor or the condensor. Can you help?

Dehumidifier tripping the breaker

I have a Hampton Bay HB50 dehumidifier, when I plug it in and turn on the unit it trips the breaker. I checked the leads on the Compressor with an ohm meter they measure about 5.6 ohms. If I disconnect the compressor the fan runs fine. Could this be the capacitor or do you think it is the compressor? Is there any way to isolate it? If it is the compressor I would assume these are throw away units is that true? Thank You

be very careful - with the unit unplugged - try shorting the capacitor with an insulated screwdriver. if you get a healthy spark - the cap is probably ok. if you don't replace the cap. the cap is used in the motor's start winding.

It sounds as if the unit has lost it's refrigerant charge. Take to small appliance repair for confirmation, but it probably leaked out.

whirlpool dehumidifier drains into the bucket, not the garden hos

My Whirlpool Gold Dehumidifier continues to drain into the bucket verses the garden hose I attached to it yesterday. I'm guessing the garden hose fitting is somehow plugged? I have to empty it every day and prefer to let it run non-stop and drain into my floordrain via the garden hose. Any ideas? The owners manual gives no clues. Thanks!

There are 5 basic, but solvable reason for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.

1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%.

2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.

3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.

4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.

5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder
level
in basement applications . Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.

If none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are 5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it can happen.

Hope this helped you.

I want to set up a drain hose from my Maytag

I want to set up a drain hose from my Maytag dehumidifier model number M7DH45B2A directly into a floor drain. I cannot find where to attach a hose to the unit. There appears to be a knock out circle on the back of the unit but I am afraid to open it if it is not the correct spot. Do you know where to attach the hose?

Hello,

Yes, there is a knock out hole at the back of your unit. Refer to page 3 of this manual for the exact position:
