Maytag M7DH65B2A Dehumidifier Questions & Answers
Why does my dehumidifer not work?
If it is not running because it thinks the bucket is full even when it isn't, the problem is that the float is broken or jammed. A replacement is no longer available, but you can find the small switch and tape it so it always stays on. It won't shut off when the bucket is full, but it will run. This assumes all the other panel lights come on properly - you didn't provide much detail about what works and what doesn't work.
Fill light on and beeps but holding tank is empty
If it is like mine, the plastic part attached to the float in the collection bucket is broken and no longer actuates the switch that indicates the collection bucket (holding tank) is full. When I checked several years ago, the replacement part was no longer available. I used tape to keep the switch in the position that allowed the dehumidifier to operate and attached the hose connector to allow the condensate to drain. The collection bucket isn't needed anymore with this arrangement.
The unit will not run even though the panel is lit
The problem you're experiencing can be caused by several things:
1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 35%
2. The air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Remove and clean the filter, as necessary.
3. The float valve in the top of the water collection bucket is broken or stuck in the UP position.
Remove the bucket and inspect the float valve for damage and freedom of movement.
4. The water collection bucket is not installed properly. While the bucket is out for checking the
above,be sure to reinstall it "squarely" from top to bottom into the bucket holder. It needs to
make firm contact with the bucket safety removal switch on the rear wall of the bucket holder.

I'm testing my daughter's dehumidifier
Hi,If you are blowing fuses and GFCI's your compressor is either not starting at all, is starting hard, or is at least grounding out momentarily...at any rate the compressor is failing, and that is not economically replaceable..heatman101

This problem is usually caused by an improperly installed water collection bucket or the float valve inside the top of the bucket is broken or stuck in the DOWN position.
To troubleshoot this, turn the unit OFF & unplug it. Remove he bucket, check the float valve's position. If it stuck in the UP position, jiggle the handle to make it return to the DOWN position. This will also allow you to determine if the float is broken. If all this checks out, reinstall the bucket "squarely" from top to bottom into the bucket holder. It must make contact with the bucket safety removal switch on the back wall of the holder. When installed properly, the bottom of the bucket will not tilt down at all. Plug the unit in and turn it ON. If everything was done correctly, the unit should start within a few seconds.

When I connect a hose to the dehumidifier, it
Patti, the problem is not the drain hose (unless it's clogged or exceeds 48" in length). The internal drain tubing to the hose connection is clogged. When this happens, water is diverted to the water collection bucket. To unclog the tubing do the following:
Using an appropriately sized, 18" long, plastic
Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hose connection hole and tubing.
Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will
need to gingerly work the Zip Tie past this bend, until it either
bottoms out or you run out of usable Zip Tie. Then slowly pull the Zip
Tie back out while rotating (twisting) it. This will breakup any clogs.
As you reach the inserted end of the Zip Tie, be prepared, as some water
may follow. Reconnect the hose, plug the unit in and turn the Master
ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or
Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run,
while you monitor it for water flow. It may take 10 to 15 minutes for the water to start flowing, so be patient.
I hop the helps you, Patti and thanks for choosing FixYa.
The light indicating the bucket is full stays on
Michael, the problem you're experiencing is caused by one of two things. Solving either requires turning the unit OFF , unplugging it and removal of the water collection bucket.
1. The float valve in the top of the bucket is either broken or stuck in the ON position. Check the arm of the float valve to see if it moves freely and is not broken.
2. The bucket was not reinstalled properly. Install the bucket so that it fits "squarely' from top to bottom into the bucket holder and that is it makes good contact with the bucket safety removal switch on the rear wall of the bucket holder.

Here is a short list of some replaceable parts for this unit. Which fan are you speaking of here?
My dehumidifier is not discharging
Skooter, the problem you're having is a result of either the drain hose being clogged or the inner tubing of the hose connection is clogged. When this happens the water is diverted into the bucket. To solve the problem do the following:

Zip Tie, carefully insert the tip of Zip Tie into the hose connection and tubing.
Continue to push it in until you reach a bend in the tubing. You will

may follow. Reconnect the hose, plug the unit in and turn the Master
ON/OFF Switch to ON. Set the humidity extraction level to 35% or
Maximum if you have a manually controlled unit. Allow the unit to run,
while you monitor the hose end for water flow. . Be patient, as it may take up to 10 minutes or water for water to appear.
NOTE: If you don't have a Zip Tie, you may use something similar ( i.e.a long pipe cleaner), but NO wire coat hangers

My dehumidifier will not turn on. No lights.
Dehumidifiers have a float switch in the collector whichturns unit off to prevent overfill. Check it out and make sure it moves freely. Many dehumidifiers have a safety device which senses when the reservoir isfull. The tank either presses against a switch, or there may be a sensorconnected to the tank that triggers a switch when the tank is full. This is toprevent any water damage to your property. Always remember water andelectricity does not mix well. Empty the tank. This should solve the problem ifthe tank was full. If you empty it, and the unit still doesn't run, look aroundthe tank to see if there's a switch or other device that controls thedehumidifier. Look for a bucket switch. You may be able to throw a switch by hand.
If all the above is ok then thecontrol board has most likely failed and unfortunately the manufacturer hasdiscontinued the production of parts for this unit. The board is no longeravailable.
The humidifier does not collect
Hi,the lack of water in the bucket, may be a result of the humidity
setting on the unit being to high. Try setting the level at 45% or
lower. Also, be sure there's adequate air flow around the unit itself.
It should remain a minimum of 12' from a wall or furniture. 24" is
better.
If the above doesn't solve the problem, try this at home
test. Place the unit in the bathroom, turn it ON and set the level as
low as possible. Turn the shower ON hot enough to generate steam. Do not
turn ON the bathroom's exhaust fan. As you exit the bathroom, close the
door. Wait 15 to 20 minutes, before returning to the bathroom. When you
do, turn the shower OFF and allow the unit to run for several more
minutes. Then check the bucket for water. If there is any sign of water
in it, it's working fine. It was probably a case of the humidity level
being set to high the first time.
If there was no water in the bucket, the refrigerant gas in the cooling coils and the compressor may need recharging.
Hope this helped your to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.
It runs but no water
There are 5 basic, but solvable reasons for what you described. Please pay particular attention to numbers 1 & 2.
1. The humidity extraction level is set to HIGH. Lower it to 32-35%. If you have an analog unit
set the humidity extraction knob on Maximum.
2. Air intake filter is dirty or clogged. Turn unit OFF, & Unplug the
Unit, before removing to inspect & clean it, if necessary. If washed,
allow filter to completely dry before reinstalling. DO NOT operate
the unit without the filter.
3. Obstructed air flow. Maintain a minimum of 12 to 18" of clear air
space around the entire unit.
4. Cooling coils are dirty and need to be cleaned. Use warm water & dish washing liquid to
clean the coils. Rinse and wipe dry. Apply a light coating of WD40 to the coils.
5. Ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees.
dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures
(Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to
where the air
temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level
in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor,
onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight
of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this
problem.
If
none of the above solves the problem, it may be a case of the
compressor needs to be recharged with refrigerant gas or that the humidity condenser sensor has failed. These things usually occur in units that are
5 years old or older. It's rare in a unit younger than that. But, it
can happen.
I hope this helps you ro troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks fr choosing FixYa.

With this model is there
Yes, there is a way to do it. As a matter of fact, your model (now discontinued) came with a short section of hose. However, you can still use a short 5' section of garden hose and achieve the same results. To find the hose connection (if you don't have your Owners Manual) remove the bucket and you should see what looks like a hose connection (which it is) behind where the bucket sits in the unit. If it is not there, inspect the back of the humidifier for a small 2"x 2" pop-out compartment door. Inside of that is the hose connection. Remember, dehumidifiers do not have pumps to pump the water out, they rely on gravity for water to flow through and out of the hose.
Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks
My dehumidifer collect water but
This may be caused by running the unit in continuous mode, rather than timed mode. The heat is generally is generated when the defrost mode cycles on, to defrost the cooling coils. This happens more frequently, if the air space around the unit is obstructed or it's operating in a temperature range of 40 to 60 F. Cleaning the air intake filter at least once a week, can help solve this problem, too.
Maintain a minimum of 12" free air space around all sides of the dehumidifier. Use a timed mode rather than a continuous mode. Make sure the room is within the proper operating temperature range and clean the air intake filter weekly.
Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem.
