Wrt54gx2 won't stay powered up

Has the AC jack been damaged in the Linksys, due to pulling of the cord? Try wiggling the plug at the rear of the linksys to verify the connection. Check, reseat ALL cables. If it's connected to the ISP modem, can you use a Ethernet cable on the Linksys to the computer to verify signal? It may be bad, hard to say for sure.

Why i cant reset my

Hi trenzfall89,

I see that you are resetting your Linksys Wireless Router.

You mentioned you pressed it but it will not reset, if that is a brand new Router, then most probably the plastic covering the reset button is still ther you should press it to go in the Router and get to the Reset Button, the pin that you are using should go in the Router at least to determine that the reset button is really getting pressed on the Router.

Hold it down 15 seconds will be fine also make sure that by doing the resetting the router should as well be turned or Powered ON and not powered OFF to make the reset feature to happen or work on the Router...

If still the Router will not reset then this is probably that the router is not anymore functional nor responding properly anymore, you may need to just get a new router in this case.

I hope this help.

Have a nice day,

I hooked up a new computer to my wireless and it

Your wireless network must be secured
You will need to check the wireless settings of the router.
Is there any computer online using the router.
check the IP address on that computer.
If yes then you can open the router set up page on that computer.
router set up page is the page where you can check all the router settings.
Click Here for more information about the routers and network

Wep key problems

Plug a computer directly into the router (with an ethernet cable). Then in your browser, go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. You should be able to log into the router from there and adjust the wireless settings.

Hopefully you know the router password...Otherwise you will have to reset the router, in which case, there is usually a small recessed button somewhere on it, that you can hold down for 30sec to reset the router settings to factory defaults.

OR

if you have access to the router please try this: Go to Wireless Tab > Wireless Security (sub tab) and you should be able to see your WPA or WEP key.

Wireless Networking With a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GX Router?

k2rt9ceswg,

You seem rather savvy so I won't bore you with frivolous explanation. Essentially ISPs detect the MAC address of whatever device is plugged into their network. In the case of your laptop connected wired to your modem, the MAC address of your wired adapter is what is tied to your ISP account. When you plugged in a router, the MAC address of that router was different than your laptop's wired network adapter and your ISP said "nope, not letting that connect". This is something most ISPs are doing now-a-days.

You can get around this by following these steps:
  1. Plug your PC back into the modem wired
  2. Ensure you have internet connection again
  3. Go to Start -> run and type "cmd" without quotes
  4. Type "ipconfig /release" without the quotes (there is a space in there that needs to be in there)
  5. Disconnect your PC from the modem and plug the router into it
  6. Plug another LAN cable into the router and your laptop
  7. In the same command prompt, type "ipconfig /renew"
If the computer pulls an IP address for the wired ethernet, you should be all set to disconnect the cable from the router and PC and try to connect to it wireless. If it doesn't pull an IP address, you'll need to contact your ISP and inform them that you're having trouble getting your new router to work with your existing network.

You might also consider depressing the reset button located on the back of your Linksys router to set the router to its default configuration. This would clear all previous settings if there were any and might clear up any configuration options you had set when previously using this router.

What is portforwarding

You need to login to your router and go to firewall or virtual servers.  In there you can setup port forwarding.  The goal is to forward external (internet) traffic to a specific internal machine (your PS3).  You do this on a per TCP/UDP port basis and must specify the appropriate external TCP and/or UDP port and internal TCP and/or UDP port.  Sounds harder than it is.
Or you can setup your PS3 in your router's DMZ (Demiliterized Zone).  This sets up the router to forward ALL internet sourced traffic to a specific machine (your PS3).  This is the easier way to do it so you don't have to worry about specific TCP/UDP port numbers.

Can't connect or even get past setup.

hmmm...

ok, first question:  Are you running the setup CD while the computer has a physical cable connecting it to the router, or are you trying to do this completely over wireless?'

For most wireless routers, initial setup works best using a physical cable.

also, it's possible that the manual reversed username and password:  try USERNAME Admin, BLANK password.

Slow web page loading

To setup and improve your wireless network’s signal, you can change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) and/or try using a different channel.
Changing your Router’s SSID and Channel
Step 1:
Access the router’s web-based setup page.
Accessing the Router’s Web-Based Setup Page
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router’s IP Address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Links-ys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name space blank, type in your router’s password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.
Step 2:
When the router’s web-based setup page appears, click the Wireless tab.
Step 3:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID) and if it’s still set to ‘linksys’ change it to something unique then click Save Settings.
click the Wireless tab and select the Wireless Security tab.
Step 3:
Select WEP under Security Mode.
Step 4:
Select any number on the Default Transmit Key field to determine which key you’ll be using. In this example, we selected number one.
Step 5:
Select 64 bits on WEP Encryption
Step 6:
Type a wireless network password of your choice such as “MySecretKey,” then click Generate.
NOTE: You should come up with a password that is unique for your network and is a combination of numbers and letters up to 10 characters.
Step 7:
The result will be a string of random characters. Copy the resulting string since this will be the key to your wireless network.
NOTE: Do not give this key to anyone. This will be your wireless network’s key.
And click save settings..

Unstable PS3 connection

good idea to assign your own ip but no need to use dmz...

do the following:

1. reset your router to factory settings, assign urself an ip address (make sure its out of the scope of the dhcp), no need for dmz
2. enable upnp (thats what ps3 uses)
open these specific ports if u are using firewalls
TCP:
  • 80
  • 443
  • 5223
UDP:
  • 3478
  • 3479
  • 3658 should also be opened for voice chat.
also if u want to make it faster use Port forwarding and then forward the above port to your static ps3 ip address and u will get even lower pings to play games and no lag

cheers
