My maytag gas range have a error message 5a6. I
The error your range is displaying is actually "SABBATH", which is Sabbath Mode. This enables the consumer to disable certain features of the range in order to honor the sabbath. Usually this disables the oven, but allows the consumer to still use the surface burners. You cannot defeat it by unplugging the range or turning off the breaker either. You will either have to wait 72 hours for the mode to clear, or figure out how to turn it off.
Somewhere in the owner/operator's manual is a section that refers to "Sabbath Mode". Since all ranges differ in features, you need to refer to the operation section of your owner's manual to find out how to shut the feature off.
If the model number you listed this question under is correct, this range is equipped with a Control Lock-Out feature, rather than a Sabbath Mode. To cancel the Control Lock, you need to press and hold the STOP/TIME and CANCEL pads down at the same time for 3 seconds.
If you can't find this information, or no longer have an owner's manual, you can download or print a copy for FREE at managemylife.com. Just enter your model number under the "Manuals" link and you will find it listed in .pdf (Adobe) format.
If you have questions, please post back with your correct MODEL NUMBER (if different from the one I provided) and let me know. I hope this helps you.
The oven will not light.
The problem is usually the igniter not reaching the correct amp draw .When the igniter does not reach the correct amp draw it may allow the gas valve to partially open or not open at all. The igniters are inexpensive and easy to replace. There is a video at http://appliancehelponline.com/gasoventroubleshootvideo.html this will walk you thru the correct procedure for performing this test. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same.You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.
Maytag oven will not ignite
If its a square glow bar it must pull 3.5 apms to open the gas valve. Round ones pull 2.5 apms. even though the glow bar is on it must be real bright. Has it been taken over 45 second to light the oven. You will need some way to check the amps. If its getting enough amps the safety valve is bad.
The oven will not cook on bake
Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. If the ignitor is a round style - amperage should be 2.5-3A, if the ignitor is rectangular - 3 - 3.6A. If less than 2.5A or 3A respectively - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers for round style ones: 4342528, WB2X9154, SGR403, 5304401265;
rectangular styles: 12400035, WB13K21, WB2X9998, SGR412, NR020, 5303935066, 814269, 9753108.
Ignitors of the same shape (i.e. rectangular) are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires.
Good luck!
