Player does not out put sound
Hi,
You are not able to get the sound with the video that you are burning as the burning software has expired and you need to purchase it. However there are other free software that does the same as Nero. You can try
BurnOn CD & DVD burning software for the same and enjoy all the videos as it is absolutely free.
Cheers!

Cd drive not working
One thing you can do is in device manager, delete the device, reboot the computer and see if it finds the device and reinstalls the software for it. If it does not, there is a high probability that the drive is bad or the IDE controller in the computer has failed. Windows XP is no longer supported.

TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D
It is too late to find out the issue and return SH-S182D drive.
SH-S182D drive has compatibility issue, none of firmware (including the latest) is "perfect" so far.
I couldn't do anything but wait for Samsung to release new firmware to fix their drive.
Same **** with my Samsung SH-S182M. In a nutshell, it burns DVD's then
can't read them while my old, cheap DVD reader can. Once in a while it
manages to read one making me think I've fixed the problem.
All i can say to you is buy a new one my friend.
If i am helpful to you, please rate me.
Thank you.

I have a Samsung combo
It is most likely your drivers are not correct or not up to date.
I'd do a search for your model to get the correct updated driver installed for your operating system.
could also be the software you are using to burn.
Most computers come with something like neroburn which should work for a basic install but may have some issues with certain types of CDs. I'd try to just write one small file onto both a re-writable and a write only desk and see if it make a difference. You could always downlaod a freeware cd burner and see if it is a software issue.
sincerely dought it is your cable connections but you can make sure the IDE is connected all the way on each end, but if it's running it shouldn't be the cables.

My Samsung combo drive does
It is likely that the laser diode for CD reading and writing has burned out. DVDs use a different laser diode. If this functionality is important to you, replacement is the only option.

MY COMBO DRIVE IS NOT
Does it read them and just not play them this could be codecs are needed if you have Windows Media player you will need certain codecs in order to play some movies. I use a product called
VLC Media Player and use it as my default player as well as
XPBurner for all my burning needs. XPBurner works with Win7 if that is what you have.
It is most likely codecs if this is not the case you might consider a fresh boot unplug the computer from the wall then push the power button in for 3-5 seconds then plug the computer back in and restart the system it should fix this issue. If this does not work and you have installed codecs proper then you may consider a new combo drive. This may be the ultimate issue I hope this assisted you. Click the links I have sent to you to possibly fix this issue. Thanks for using FixYa! John

Unit will not read or
first things, go to start and then, settings , then control panel... open your system icon, device manager, i assume u were already here as you said the device said it worked properly. try uninstalling the driver. if u have a reg cleaner, run it at this time. then re-boot your computer and let it re-install your driver. this seems to work on alot of systems that people have problems with the peripherals. of course, im sure u have already looked to make sure u are running the latest driver ...:)
cheers....PK

My Samsung R530 Laptop, has stopped writing dvds,
HI Frank,
-
Download and install CCleaner
(free) from Piriform
-
Run the cleaner to remove old
un-needed temp files
-
Select the StartUp tab and look
for any programs that you know you installed but no longer use or
need, and disable them. Caution, do
not disable any system files unless you absolutely know what they
do and that you do not need them.
-
Run the Registry cleaner, when
asked if you want to backup the registry, select YES,
and save to a file you will remember just in case. I have used this
program hundreds of time on many different system and it has never
caused a problem, but you want to be safe, backup the Registry.
-
If asked about a particular file
that it wants to clean, select "yes to all"
-
Reboot
Windows should reinstall the drive when
the computer boots back up.
If this does not resolve your problem,
try the following.
If you take all these step and you
still can not burn a DVD or play CDs, chances are your CD/DVD burner component needs
to be replaced. Good Luck.

Writing problem
Make sure your processor at least dual core.
Your power suplay unit is "true power" or rue rating. (fluxtuative voltage can causes writing problem).
Make sure your RAM at least 1 GB.(2 is better).
Turn of your Antivirus program when you burn a CD.
