No power
most likely either the plug going into the monitor or outlet is not connected properly or the outlet is bad if it was just working and you have not had any surges

Backlight failing
It can be due to failure in the backlight inverter circuits, failed caps in the power supply (which is more likely to be), bad lamps. See example of faile Samsung monitors due to bad caps:

Display flickering black and white
Hi
Thanks for using FixYa.The first thing you should try is to reinstall its drivers, if it still wont work then it seems the issue is with the power board or the main board thats going bad and we’ll need to check few things. When you open the unit up; take a look at the power board-the board where, the power cords/plugs goes into. You might see some filter capacitors a little bulged up in the top-If this is the case-this is your defective part(you can try to replace them-but some soldering equipment is needed). If not, then probably the main board has gone bad. This is the other board-where all he inputs are going into. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components.. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee

How do i get the sound to work
You don't, it has no speakers. You need to buy a separate powered
speaker system and connect them to the soundcard (the coloured phono
sockets on the back of your pc).

How to replace backlight in Samsung 204B
asachs493, First go to YOUTUBE and view the longer and more informative video clips of "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" to see if you really want to do that!!! Also visit all of these sites:--
www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and
www.badcaps.net ,
www.lcdparts.net Remember tihs!! Replacing "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" may not be the problem!! Your problem may be in the circuit that generates the high voltage that starts and sustains running voltage for the lamps!!! It's called an "electronic ballast circuit" and because it is in a lcd CCFL monitor, it is refered to as the "inverter circuit" (dc to hi ac voltage) The new "curlieQ CFL energy efficient, screw-in light bulbs have "converter" electronic ballasts!! (ac line to hi ac voltage) Just FYI. 12fixlouie

Only getting 1/2 screen upper half black
Try connecting the monitor to a different computer.
If you get the same symptoms, take the monitor to a qualified technician -- they probably will charge your $25, and then tell you that the electronics inside the LCD are damaged, and that you'll need to replace the monitor. Instead, exercise the "warranty" on the monitor, to get it replaced, or "invest" the $25 "inspection-fee" as part-payment of a new monitor.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster
Hi,
This problem is usually seen if the signal cable is not securely attached to the output socket or if any of the pins are bent or broken.
Remove and check the signal cable and see if any of the pins are bent or broken, Then, re-insert the signal cable and make sure it is securely attached to the socket.
Also, if you are using a video card, check and see whether it is properly inserted in its slot.
Hope this solves your problem. For more help and clarifications, please reply to this post. Thanks
