Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor - Page 4 Questions & Answers
Monitor will not come on.
Look at the caps in the power supply section first, look for leaking/bulging top caps.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Monitor on/off button flickers
Hi!
The reason why the button of your monitor flickers is because the 12 volts output supply for your inverter board is not stable..
If you have the skills and the right tools for this, Here's what you need to do
1. If your monitor comes with a power supply adapter, open it..check and replace blown capacitor with same value..
2. If your monitor is using a cable power cord..open the back cover of your lcd..on the power supply section.. check and replace blown capacitor.
3. Check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections.
4. On the inverter board section...check and resolder the terminals for fixing possible loose connections, the high voltage inverter usually loose connections when overheat.
5. Other things to check if step 1 to 4 did not resolve your problem. Check and replace burnt high voltage transformer.. Check and replace busted backlight inverter..
Hope this fix your problems..
thanks.. much appreciated if you rate this help.

Can i get a copy of the power supply diagram for
jose54tony, Schematics would only be available from Samsung. Rarely do they let them out of there tight grip!! You may need to look at the smps board and inverter board to find bad transistors that may have also died (muerto) when the electrolytic filter capacitors failed. 12fixlouie

Gateway Flat Screen FPD1830
Well, this problem is going to only get worse. You can probably send it back to the manufacturer if you still have a warantee, but if you can't just buy a new monitor.

Powers on then back off in two seconds
hello,
Seems that your problem is not your Samsung Monitor. Please check very well. Since this is basically an indication that your CPU is not working that is why there is no display in the monitor and the yellow light turns to orange.
- Please try to use another monitor if you still have one that is working well. Then power up your computer and see if there is display on the monitor. If there is, then your reported monitor really has a problem. And if there is no display even in the new working monitor, then the CPU is in frozen state that is why there is no display on the monitor.

I have a SyncMaster 204B.
if it is set as a secondary monitor to the laptop ..you have to actually turn it on ...and this is done by pressing Fn +F4 in most laptops...try it and let me know how it presents..

Without graphic card how will i get 1600 x 900
you need a graphics card to display images on your monitor. Are you trying to hook up something other then a PC to this?
the 1600X900 is a resolution that the monitor supports depending on the graphics card and or device its connected to. this is not a software thing but rather a hardware device supportive of the resolution format.

Flickering and then no picture
punchjackson, You or qualified electronics technician will need to open and visually inspect switch-mode-power-supply board to possibly determine cause of SMPS going into partial or full shutdown mode. Do some reading in fixya profile of "louie12fix" and then visit links you find there. Remember this!!! The basic design and operation of your 204B isn't any different than any other "cold cathode fluorescent-lamp" back-lit LCD monitor. Inspect all solder joints and electrolytic filter capacitors first. Then let us know what you find. Also do a visit to YOUTUBE for lcd monitor repair videos and see what a Bad Capacitor looks like before you open your unit. 12fixlouie
