Wont' Turn On
You took the first correct step. You really need to take this thing apart again, and blow the darn thing outwith a leaf blower.I had the same problem and then cleaned it out with the leaf blower and it works. The cooling fins or heat sinks are covered with dust and lint, this creates an insulation that needs removed. This will return the cooling property needed to sustain life. When you replace the back cover be sure you have a good ground. The cover when properly closed will complete a good ground, and stay on as well.
Burned out lamp?
First. Turn on the set and see if the Lamp Illuminates, If so then you have a bad Color Wheel. If the Lamp does not light up, you have a bad lamp.
Take out the lamp and look to the center of the lamp. If you see broken glass inside you have a bad lamp.
My Samsung HL-R6178W television is not turning on.
To check and see if it your bulb, remove the screw and pull the lamp assembly from the back. ON the very back where the cover is to access the lamp tape the switch so that it is all the way up and turn the television on. You should here a buzz and see a blue spark. If this is taking place, remove the tape and order another bulb. You will also see the lamp light up from the back without removing anything and just by attempting to turnt he television on. Other things that you may need to check is the lamp cover switch, DMD board, color wheel, fans, but you will need a service manual to check these things. Also, another thing you can try is to unplug the televison and plug it back in after 3 minutes. It acutally sounds like its the switch that closes its circuit when the lamp cover on the back of the television is removed.

Friend,
If you are changing the whole board then there is no or minimal soldering required. Just disconnect the cable from this board to others or other to this board and unscrew the module, replace and put the cable back to and fro.
Is it only the black screen or the sound too goes. If the TV is almost dead then the PSU could be defective and may need a repair or replacement. repair would always require soldering.
If only the pic goes with the sound intact, then the video IC module may need your attention.
Please check both these conditions before taking any steps.
