I just received mine today and I ordered it this past Sunday night. My HLR6167W started buzzing and gave me a black and white picture that morning and I was all over the internet investigating the symptom. I elected to go with the color wheel based on what I was seeing and all the different things I read up on. I plan on putting it in tonight and will let you know the difficulty surrounding its installation when I am done.

You would have to determine from the TV owner manual if it can be connected--some can and some cannot----the model listed here is old enough that if it does connect it may not look very good.

Have to start at the beginning---Lamp? Ballast? Color wheel?

the fan like or high pitched sound may be a color wheel--if you unplug the set and remove the lamp you can look at it--any pieces of the colored plastic wheel missing or broken?

This can be solved by going into settings and taking off a timer. or u can simply reset the tv to factory settings and go from there. You need to do an aggressive reset on the TV. This solved problem completely for me. You must unplug the TV when it is on. Repeat this several times until the TV is jolted back into the factory default settings. The issue is actually with the programming I believe. The clue was that the display worked 100% perfect in HDMI mode, and the problem only existed in the cable setting, no matter if wires were attached or not.

Again, do an aggressive reset to the TV by unplugging it several times while it is on. It may not register the reset at first because after all, the actual problem is a programming issue and it's having trouble recognizing commands in the first place.

All LED blinking : Lamp may be defective. Replace the lamp.

If Fan is running when you turn TV on and keeps running then its OK ,Ballast Board is what turns Lamp on, Is Lamp Lighting at all?

All three LED lights flashes,u hear alot of clicking sounds too?Yes,ur tv the Ballast board is dead too.This Ballast board job is only to ignite the tv projection lamp only.Replace the Ballast board,should solve this problems.

if this "whirring" sound was making a vibration on the TV, there is a good chance that the one that needs to be replaced is the color wheel. When the color wheel fails it also triggers the signal for replacing the lamp. This is another common issue with Samsung DLP's.

Have you tried replacing the fans. It might be a thermal sensor tripping. Hope this helps.
