Samsung HT-Q40 System - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My samsung HT-Q40 turns on
Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.
Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.
You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.
If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.
If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.
I need to replace the cooling fan, but I cannot

Will not turn off has to be unplugged and if left
No solution, but i have the same problem. System freezes up and nothing works. I have to unplug it. Have had it into 2 service shops and they can't find a problem. They suggested it was overheating and that i disconnect one speaker. It seemed to solve the problem for awhile but it started acting up again after a couple of months. Samsung was no help at all and it's off warranty. I'm going to buy another unit. It won't be Samsung
No sound from a Samsung HT-Q40?
It's part of an HTiB (Home Theater in a Box). Get the speakers that it's designed to mate with. HTIB's are not like components. Due to proprietary connectors and who knows what else under the hood, they are not intended to be mixed and matched with other units.
This unit has standard speaker connections so you might be able to find some speakers to hook up to it, but its original speakers were rated at 3-ohms impedance and the spec for the amp is also at 3-ohms. You probably won't blow anything up trying them, but don't expect earth-shattering volume from typical 8-ohm speakers. As the saying goes, individual results will vary.
How exactly did you expect the TV to be the speakers for this thing? It doesn't have an outbound audio connection. TV's are traditionally the part that makes pretty moving pictures while other electronics and speakers take care of the audio end.
If you need the manual, go to retrevo.com, register, find it using >>> Samsung HT-Q40 <<< and download it for free.
CAN I PLAY THE DVD PLAYER WITH SOUND THROUGH MY TV
You can set up your tv in this way. Hook up your dvd player directly to your tv and then hook up your surround sound reciever from the audio out jacks from the back of your tv. This should allow you to use either your tv volume or the surround sound feature. Hope this helps
