Hold down the NumLock key for 4 seconds or more and then it should work.
Also try holding down the NumLock key before you connect it.

i got it!! hold down the 2 shift keys for a few seconds then bamm!!

Try a regular usb keyboard to make sure it is functioning properly
If so may need to replace keyboard
Also try a different usb port

Not to be smart, but the same thing was happening to me and I realized the Num Lock needs to be activated on the keypad AND on your laptop. I did not have it activated on my laptop and I was realizing the same problems.

You can try this:

- When your Targus keypad is disconnected press and hold the Num Lock button.
- Connect your Targus Keypad USB cable to your mac USB port while still pressing and holding the Num Lock key.
- When the Num Lock green LED light goes on, wait for exactly at least three seconds then release the Num Lock Key.
- Now it shouldn’t Beep and it will work fine in programs.

This keypad is meant for mass number data, not as a joystick replacement I'm afraid.
Did you install any software that came with it? If so, try removing it Normally you don't have on-screen NumLock messages, so this must be something extra.
It clearly wants to be used for number entry. Perhaps it has some switch to change it's behavior, either physical, or in software?

Hi, Try to put a cloth under the keypad to avoid for any much more impact when you try to hit any key.. As the pad was still need it take sometimes to get the pad work freely to its contacts. Hope this initial info helps

Usually the = sign is substituted with the * sign on the number pad.This symbol is above number 9 on the right side number pad.

You better consult your hardware manual.


If there is no manual Try checking your regional language selection in control panel. Check your MS word configuration go to: Tools > Options Check your settings for keyboard or input device.

Try holding down the shift key again for 8 seconds and read the window to cancel the filter keys.

As for your numbers not working, there is a NumLock [number lock] key on your keyboard. Try hitting that and see if your numbers work.
