Toshiba Satellite A105 hangs when charger is plugged

Toshiba Satellite laptops come with a unique power management software program that regulates the power consumption of your laptop. While this program is often helpful in extending laptop battery time, the program is also known to cause some operational difficulties when software conflicts occur. At some point you may want to change your power options, or remove the program. Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." Locate the "Toshiba Power Manager" program among the Control Panel icons. Note that this differs from the familiar Windows "Power Options" icon. Open the Power Manager application. If you want to merely modify the current settings, the Power Manager gives you many options to choose from. For maximum battery life, consider setting the Power Manager to put the laptop into various states of "sleep" after so many minutes of inactivity. Select the menu items offered to achieve power savings for the monitor or hard drive, or both. Click "Save Settings" and exit the program. Remove the Power Manager if your laptop is prone to "freezing" or seems to have difficulty "waking up" from a Sleep or Hibernation mode. Go to "Start" and "Control Panel" and choose "Add Remove Programs." Navigate to the "Toshiba Power Saver" listing. Click "Remove." When Windows is done scrubbing the program from the system, click "OK" and exit Control Panel. Reboot. The Windows on-board power management program will now take precedence over this function.

Toshiba A105 problems

Step 1: It can be very frustrating when you encounter a problem with your Toshiba Satellite laptop computer. Unfortunately, these specific Toshiba laptop models have a tendency to run into certain problems because of their design. On the plus side, computer technicians have pinpointed several of these issues, and they have troubleshooting information readily available to assist Toshiba Satellite owners. These are some common issues and solutions. Overheating If the laptop shuts down randomly whenever you attempt to run different programs then it is usually happening due to an overheated laptop. This can occur because your heat sink is filled with dust, which affects the operation of the cooling fan. The heat leaving the processor gets trapped in your laptop resulting in overheating and shuts down. Purchase compressed air in a can and blow it either into the air intakes located on the bottom of the laptop or you can remove the keyboard to get to the cooling fan and blow the dust off. If this doesn't remedy the problem, you may need to replace your cooling fan; you should hear it start working when you boot up your laptop. b> Defective Memory This problem is typically recognized upon start-up. If you see strange characters or lines of dots on your screen, this suggests defective on-board memory. To test for this problem you need to remove external RAM modules and download the Memtest 86+ utility and burn it to a disc (see Link Below). http://www.memtest86.com/ You can then run the utility from the disc after restarting your computer. Unfortunately, if this is the problem you will have to replace the motherboard. b> Power Jack Problem Power jacks on these laptops have a known history of losing contact between the positive pin and the motherboard. You can diagnose this problem if you notice your laptop using battery power when the power adapter is still plugged in. To fix this problem you have to disassemble the laptop and take out the motherboard. You then have to solder the power jack (this should only be performed by those with laptop repair experience.) b> Charging the Battery If your laptop will not turn on when starting on battery power or the battery charge LED light doesn't light up when you plug it into the power outlet, the battery isn't properly charging. For Toshiba Satellites that only operate when they are plugged in, you need to download the latest BIOS for your Satellite model from the Toshiba website. Toshiba recommends you should use version 1.30 or newer (see Link Below). http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp

Safe mode not working either

I believe your problem lies in the process explorer.exe

To fix this I would press Ctrl + Shift + Esc and the task manager will come up.

Once it does click the Processes tab and look for explorer.exe and right click it and choose End Task.

Then you need to click File > New Task
and type in:
explorer.exe

If it dont work let me know and I will look into a different method.

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4048 problem with AC

There's not much you can do. The problem is definately with your motherboard. I'd recommend a bios update, but normally you can ONLY run a bios update if the battery and the ac are both plugged in.

This problem is pretty common among Toshiba's A105 and P105 models.

Besides replacing the motherboard there's not much you can do.

Sorry.

My laptop is playing sound at a very low level.

Usually what happens hear is that a program such as media player or a dvd player will have its volume turned down and that overides the overall volume.

The trick is finding it. You need to open up any and all programs you have used with some kind of volume control and check they are turned up then close them.

You will never get super loud sound on your speakers but they should be easily heard. I've run across this on both my tosh laptop and a desktop.
