It worked beautifully last night

you might need to turn off your computer . then connect the data projector and turn on data projector then turn on computer hopefully it detects the data projector is connected and switches windows to duplicate projection On my P.C. F4 key in windows Switches the display manually to duplicate, alternate screen or pc screen only or projector screen only. As I am not familiar with Apple this support article below might explain the switching of display outputs available on Apple Mac. https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT202351

My ViewSonic PJ458D problem

This is known as 'cycling' and is common with mercury-vapor bulbs nearing end-of-life. When the bulb first starts, it glows dimly and grows in brillance. As the light grows, the pressure and temperature of the bulb also grows--increasing power demand. After a short while, the demand exceeds the ballast limit and the bulb extenguishes until the temperature (and pressure) drop again. Then, the cycle starts over. Bottom line: you need a new bulb (or, the correct bulb).

My PJ458D projector is connected

This is normally caused by a discrepancy between the computer screen resolution and the projector resolution. It could also be related to the computer screen resolution and the aspect ratio of the projector.

Could you please confirm what cable you're using to connect the computer to projector. Could you also please confirm the computer screen resolution and if the projector is set to Auto Source Select along with its Aspect Ratio.

Lamp will not turn on.

It sounds like an internal problem. How long have you owned the projector? How long have you been experiencing this issue? Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thanks,
Lee
