What does it mean when I get a message that says "please insert memory card" on my JVC Everio GZ-MG21U?

Make sure you're using an SD card, not a higher-capacity SDHC card. The GZ-MG21U works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards.

Doesnt turn on at all. Could the battery be bad?

Remove the battery and check the voltage, if low the battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. if not the fault can be within, you need to check from a blown fuse to a failure in the motherboard.Attempt only if equipped.

I lost the manual and

You can download the manual from the manufacturer's web site at
http://books.jvc.com/booklist.asp?Model=GZ-MG21U

You might want to consider NOT using a driver. The best way to download videos and pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy videos and pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any video/photo cataloging program, such as Windows Movie Maker and Windows Photo Gallery.

How to transfer videos on JVC Everio GZ-MG21U camcorder to DVD

YES!!! I GOT IT!!! Ok so the comp doesn't recognize the damn camera. I went around the problem!!! OOO so excited!!! Ok sooo simple, you'll slap yourself! Ok. First plug in your USB cord to the comp and you'll see the options play on pc, pc connection, etc. Select CREATE DVD! (You won't be able to see or select any of the files you are going to import, oh well.) You should see the regular screen pop up that says import, create, view pictures. Click IMPORT PICTURES. It will automatically import both pictures and video. For file name write something you can easily locate, ex: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA (you can change it later) Then open MOVIE MAKER. Click on IMPORT on the upper left hand corner and you'll see their demo video listed. Click on picture and video files on the bottom right hand corner and select ALL FILES. You should see what was downloaded!!! YAY!! I haven't burn a DVD yet but the files are there and the program should do it from there!

NEED MANUAL

JVC has documentation for the Everio GZ-MG21 here: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/product.jsp?archive=true&pathId=161&modelId=MODL027658 . Look on the left at the column marked Literature. The direct link to the instruction manual is http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/91/LYT1591-001D.pdf . You will need Adobe Reader or a similar program to read the files. I hope this helps. How do you move video images from camera to pc?

It has USB port, so just copy the file over while you connect it to your computer with a USB cable, make sure your computer supports USB ver2.0 or above, to get the fairly good speed of file transferring speed.
You may need to install the driver/applications that came with the camcorder to get the recorded videos and pictures copied to your pc.
you can find the introduction manual here, http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/91/LYT1591-001D.pdf

Hard drive is full on

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the harddrive is giving you the problem. Are you seeing any error message on the screen of the camcorder? Try to plug in the SD card to your computer (if the computer has SD card slot) and see if the computer can detect the SD card. You can format the card from there if the computer was able to detect it. Insert it back to your camcorder after formatting and see the result.
