When turning dvd on the unit shuts off right away
Pretty common with that model. All you can do is try unplugging it for 10 minutes or so and try it again. If still bad, disconnect everything hooked to it and see if it stays on. If it does, hook up one item at a time to see if a speaker or something is causing the shutdown. If it doesn't stay on with nothing hooked to it, it has internal (possibly capacitors) that are bad.
Had a power failure and
Possible that the power supply in the set has failed. but if can open the set after disconnecting the power line , then check from the power cord to the fuse - check to see if this is open. If so replace and test the amp . If the fuse blows you have a problem of a short in the corresponding circuit or transformer.
Disconnect the respective circuits one by one till the short status changes.
This will confirm the component that was damaged.
It is also possible that the output drivers have been damaged and if so the powers supply might go off into protect mode when it is switched on,. If so you will need to check the output drivers for a short. remove the speakers also and test to confirm if there is any short or damage done during this power surge.
I recently picked up the THC-c60 system without
You can use the sub-woofer and the speakers even without a supporting amplifier. The sub-woofer alone is powered with 167w per channel enough to power all the speakers. The DIN cables used to connect the sub-woofer to any source device like a computer, multi-media projector and others.
Pplug it in and it
a very common problem with this unit is the connector on the subwoofer that accepts the round plug joining it to the dvd player is worn...if its bad the sub will pop when its jiggled

When you say the "TV side" you really mean the Cable or Satellite Box audio, right? There's no digital optical connection intended for the physical TV.
I hope you're not really looking directly into the cable with your naked eye. A safer way to visually check for the presence of red laser is to hold a thin piece of white paper up against the cable and observe the spot.
With your remaining good eye, look INdirectly or hold a thin piece of white paper in front of the the optical port on the JVC to see if there is a visible red glow. Most likely the cable itself is the problem. Make sure it has large open loops rather than tight bends throughout its routing.
I can't play DVD's from Europe. Do I need to
The region code is locked after playing 5 DVD's. This prevents you from buying DVD's from a less expensive region.... You could try and find a hack for your player on the internet, but beware of scammers asking for money for the info.
People are showing up green.
With the small amount of info to go on, it sounds like you may be connected with component video cords(red, blue, green) I recommend check that you have the colors matchd up corectly at each end and if all checks out good there then try another set of component video cables or connect with HDMI cable if your components and TV have the HDMI ports available. I say this because with component video cords, if you have the green cable in the correct jacks on the TV and the digital source and the other two(red , blue) in the wrong jacks the picture will look very green. Good luck !
