Be sure the needle is fully inserted and secured in the needle holder.

Thread according to machine instructions. Manually rotate handwheel to bring bottom thread to top. There should no interference of the needle and the rotary hook. If you don't fully insert the needle it may strike the hook.

I had an older Janome machine, and when i needed a manual, parts etc. I found it best to go straight to the company. Saves you time and frustration searching. Do a google search for that brand of machine and add the model number and see what comes up. Be sure to to add the word manuals, or operating instructions too. Like this, from your google search type: (Janome sewing machine operating instruction, or manual) or something close to that. If nothing else you will probably find several dealers, and repair shops that should be able to help you. And you might try a web site called Free online manuals,to download. If the symbol looks like ] [, then this isn't generally an error message. The machine is in bobbin wind mode. Move the bobbin winder spindle to the left. If the spindle is all the way to the left, then you have a problem with the bobbin winding mechanism below the bobbin winder spindle slot. The sewing machine isn't correctly getting the message of where the spindle is. The Janome 6260 Quilter's Companion manual is available from Janome.
