Why not try 3 ? And see what happens. I am not too sure what you are referring to, so I am only guessing that this will help you.

I have a Singer 30920
Hello
It's a possible misthreading problem, caused by not threading with the presser foot up (if you are using a presser foot) or not starting the seam correctly
Check for some bits and pieces of trapped thread in your machine
Remove all the thread from the machineremove the needleplate and the bobbin case as well if it's removeable.
Clean and oil per the manual's recommendation. Use a brush and vacuum, and real sewing machine oil
Put in a new needle of the correct point style for the fabric you're sewing and the right size for the thickness of fabric
Make sure the needle is in right way around
Take a good look at the bobbin. If it's lumpy or you spot loops, strip off the thread and rewind. Bobbins should be smoothly and evenly wound. Wind at a slow, steady speed it helps with tension issues if the thread isn't stretching as it's being wound.
Rethread, Make sure the presser foot is UP when you thread the top.it opens the top tension so that the thread actually gets in between the tension disk
Fetch up the bobbin thread. You need about a 4" tail of thread top and bottom. Run both threads under the presser foot and behind it.
If this doesn't fix your problems, you may have some thread caught farther in the machine than you can spot .Bad timing is actually a fairly rare event, often preceded by broken needles and loud noises,
To retime the machine;
Using a brand new needle in the machine, turn hand wheel anticlockwise until the needle moves to its lowest point - then back up 2.2mm
Turn pre-loosened hook gears or belt pulleys by hand (in the same direction as the machine would run), watch the hook movement as the hook point rotates behind needle point - when the hook point is directly behind the needle, tighten all gears
Some disassembly may be required so you can view the hook point. eg. needle plate or spool case

It is usually your top threading causing the problem. Totally rethread, make sure that the thread is not tangled, put in a new needle, now with the presser foot up, pull on your top thread, it should pull smoothly, then lower the presser foot, it should barely move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs. It probably would not be a bad idea to clean and oil your machine now, too. I don't know if you would want to, but I have taken off the throat plate and found lots of lint in there that I wouldn't be able to see otherwise. It almost looks like felt sometimes and there shouldn't be any "felt" there. I hope I helped you.

After making 21 button holes
I would say that somehow your top thread jumped out of the tension disc. Try rethreading, with the presser foot up, then pull your top thread, it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, it should barely move. Sometimes this seats the thread in the tension discs. Also, make sure that you have right thread and needle combination. And maybe, just to be on the safe side, change your needle, it could have a small burr on it after the 21 buttonholes. Good luck, hope I helped you.

The needle wont pick up the bobbin thread
Try a new needle, if that doesn't work, you may need service because the timing could be messed up. Adjusting the timing is not a do it yourself project, unless you have the tools and expertise. I hope that it is the needle for you.

The underside of the fabric is not stitching
Try this, rethread your machine, insert a new needle, now with the presser foot up, pull the top thread, it should pull smoothly, now with the presser foot down, pull the thread again, it should barely move. This sometimes seats the thread through the tension discs. I know it seems crazy but when the thread bunches up underneath, it is the top thread causing the problem. Hope this gets you going again.

New to me. Threaded machine- started with needle
Maybe, pull the material out of machine, and make sure that the thread didn't all jam in the bobbin area. If so, clean it out and rethread your machine, upper and lower. Now, put the material in again, but do not start with needle in the materal, make sure that it is in the highest position. Hang on to your threads, upper & lower, for a few stitches. If, your material is real stretchy or thin, put some stabilizer under it, or gift wrapping tissue paper under it. See what happens now. Good luck

Everything has lit up, have rethreaded many times,
If, it is still under warranty take it in for service. If, it is not call Singer at 1-800-4singer customer service and ask why it would do that because it sounds like an electrical problem with it sewing on its own. Good luck, I hope that you do not have to pay anything.

When I start to stitch it just makes a big mess of
It is usually your top threading. Try this test, with the presser foot up, pull your top thread, it should pull smoothly, now put the presser foot down, pull top thread, it should barely move. Sometimes, just doing that seats the thread into the tension discs. Hopefully, it will help you. Another thing, make sure that you use good thread, and try a new needle also.

Needle won't pick up bobbin
Try a new needle, and make sure that the flat side faces the rear of the machine. I am hoping that it is not your timing. You can also call Singer at 1-800-4singer customer service. Good luck.

I'm not too sure on 'correct' terminology - but
I think that it needs professional help. Call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask customer service, they can tell you what to do, If, you have a warranty, they may cover it. If not, the worst is that you have to pay to get it working again. Sometimes, you yearn for the good old mechanical machine with no bells and whistles.
