check the bobbin to make sure it's not warped
check the needle to make sure it's not bent-roll on flat surface to see if it roll correctly
make sure the bobbin is in the bobbin case correctly
make sure you have a 3 to 4 inch tail on the bobbin-so the upper thread can pick it up easily
make sure you have a 3 to 4 inch tail on upper thread also as it picks up the lower thread
or you can hold the upper thread with your hand to the side of the machine & use the handwheel to lower the needle as it picks up the lower thread
pull both threads to the back behind the needle
make sure there is no lint or loose threads in the bobbin area

when the fabric doesn't move then the feed dogs need to be checkedhere is a link for a free manual, if you don't have onehttp://www.singerco.com/uploads/download/1132_white-2200-x-.pdfcheck in the manual to see if it show where the feed dog lever is, if the feeddog is in the up position or down, it must be up for regular sewing, if it doesn't show the feed dog then the machine would have to be taken in to a sewing machine shop to have the feed dog checkedtry changing the needlemake sure the bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case and make sure the bobbin is turned the right way in the bobbin case

If a sewing machine fails to pick up the bobbin thread, it's usually because the needle isn't fully in the needle bar... OR its the wrong size needle for the machine.

typically you need to increase the upper tension to 7-8 for very heavy duty materials, I like to start with the machine at like 4 and increase till it is just perfect. Good luck with your project.
